Yeah, either psychologist or psychiatrist is going to take a long time. It doesnt seem like that when you're doing it though. I just got done with my masters, and honestly I cant wait to get into a PhD program. Medical school and PhD programs in psychology demand a whole lot more time and education from you.
Psychiatry: 4 years undergraduate, (you will need to follow a pre-med course) 4 years medical school, 4 years residency + specialization well it's as hard as getting any other medical degree...
start by applying to good undergraduate programs where you can get your bachelors in science degree
Other careers in psychology Clinical Psychologists: 4 years undergraduate, 4-5 years doctorate, 1 year internship + hours needed to get licensing, depends on the state Counseling Psychologists: 4 years undergraduate, 2 years masters - or you can go straight into the doctorate program (5 years), 1 year internship + hours needed to get licensing, depends on the state Mental health Counselors/Marriage and Family Therapists - 4 years undergraduate, 2 years masters, + hours needed to get licensing, depends on the state

I was leaning towards psychology, but it's gonna take a looong time. This website helps me.. for some reason I always thought it's harder to become a cop than a psychiatrist, but it's the other way around.. :P

You need an MD, first....psychiatry is a medical specialty, just like an internist, an OB/GYN...Psychologists do not need to have a Medical degree, tho.
