Tree roots are rotting.

I have a Willow tree in my back yard and on windy days it eerily sways back and forth AT the Trunk! I have noticed that the lowest trunk- near the ground is decaying a bit but now I think it is completely rotten on the inside. I am afraid it is going to topple over with a sudden gust of wind- which is highly possible here in Oklahoma. I have been researching online and I think that my tree has Amillaria Root Rott. I want to cut my tree down before it falls on my house, fence, swing set, dogs or kids. (AAH!) But I am confused about what I have read online about it. It said that the disease could spread when you cut it… Can anyone tell me more about what this could be and what I should do about it? Thanks!

Cut the tree, and burn the wood as well as the sawdust. Sucks about the tree… Willows are nice. A good idea would be also to call the state forest agent, to see what they say.

Thanks. Amillaria Root Rott- I read- can kill a tree within one year and there is nothing you can do about it. We noticed last Summer that only half our tree had leaves. The other half seemed dead. Originally we thought that this was due to the previous winter’s Ice Storm. Not So. We will miss our Willow Tree.
