Who thinks it is possible to get OCD, or for your OCD to worsen if you watch a TV show about it?

Answer #1

For example: TV shows like “The OCD Project.” or “Obsessed”

Answer #2

You cant develop a mental disorder from watching a show. Odds are you probably already have the tendencies or the risk factors if it develops after watching it. Could it be triggering, perhaps.

Answer #3

Good answer :) I agree.

Answer #4

It could be that watching put the ideas in your head. I can’t think of what it’s called, but if you hear about symptoms of something, you may start thinking that you have that problem, when really you don’t. Try and think about that.

Answer #5

I do….

Answer #6

I also think you can lessen OCD by watching shows about it. Learning that it can be controlled, learning what might trigger it, etc…

Answer #7

Nice answer! :)

Answer #8

Ty is correct you can’t get OCD from watching a tv show. And Phrannie is correct too. By recognizing that you might have it you can learn to control it. There are several forms of OCD, from being freaked out by something like driving to being super organized to counting everything you do or having to do things several times in a row. But if you realize that you do it you can learn to either live with it or control it. I have a few different forms of OCD. I hiked the Great Wall of China for two days and the entire time I was freaked out that I was going to fall off or fall backwards down the steps. I just had to tell myself not to worry too much about it. It was really very unlikely that either of those things would happen. I’m also very organized. I have to have thing on my desk in a certain place. If someone comes and moves something I can tell right away and it upsets me at first but then I realize that it’s not a big deal.

The best thing to do if you think you have OCD is to find out what you can about it and learn what you can do to control it. It’s different for everyone. But if it does take over a part of your life you should try to get help.

Answer #9

Definitely. If you have OCD tendencies, then don’t watch shows that put ideas in your head.
