Canvas works Alot better, you can use paper but it needs to be thick paper.

It really doesn’t matter with oil pastels. Though you don’t have to necessarily have thick paper, depending on what you plan on creating on the paper, it may prove to be a good idea.
canvas is best. i always work with all that art stuff so i know about that stuff :) you can use regular paper but its just isnt as good
