Stressing over nothing!!!???

I love westies soo much they are such fun loving dogs.. My 2 yrd old westie buddy is perfect. I trained him from a pup and hes a defo mumies boy :) but macy is proving to be a tough cookie!!! Buddy when he was a pup was fine we could leave him all night in the kitchen and he would be fine.. But macy barks sooo loud and I have know dea what to do..shall I take her out her cage and just leave her in the kitchen over night with a stair gate blocking the dogs? Or just hang in there and keep putting her in the cage at night? Im soo desprate for sleep its unreal… I love my dogs so much but with macy being a tough little cookie im doughting myself.. Have I took on to much! Do you have two dogs? Do they get better the older the pup gets?

Answer #1

why would you put a puppy in a cage all night?

Answer #2

where exactly can they possibly get lost in a house? mine used to sleep in my room… I’d just let him out in the morning…

btw… the whole crying thing… personally I think it’s a little mean to keep a puppy caged up… but if you really want the crying to stop it’s a matter of basic conditioning… when the puppy figures out that crying isnt going to get ANY attention or anything, it will eventually stop… again, I dont get why you cant just let it be in your room, but really the only way to get it to stop is to completely ignore it and deal with the crying for a few days… it will eventually stop… be warned, any attention whatsoever will completely set you back… you have to be completely consistent and ignore the crying… dont talk to him, dont go check on him, dont go near him until he quits crying…

I have 3 dogs, It my eyes you need to be persistant and keep doing the same routine. Or she is going to train you and it sounds like she is winning. All puppies will cry when left alone at night, I use Snuggle Safe’s for my chihuahua’s. they see me heating it up and when I put it in there crate they climb right in and cuddle up to it.

Are you putting them in the same crate.

Oh and like Prannie said, my crate is in my bedroom

I have a 13 year old lab mix and a 10 month old St. Bernard. I have never kenneled them, and they actually sleep in my room.

It does get better…the pup eventually learns that night time is bedtime. Set up a nightly routine so that the pup starts to get the idea.

HANG IN THERE!!! She’s only 8 weeks old…she WILL give up the barking. Each dog has it’s own personality, it’s own endurance, it’s own good things and bad things…She’s a terrier, so she’s supposed to be a bit stubborn…Buddy isn’t as stubborn, that’s all…

Once she actually gets you to turn her out of the crate, it will be HELL ever getting her back in…you’ll have rewarded the exact behavior you didn’t want…Continue with letting her be with Buddy, but in her crate, with a blanket.

ALSO, just for an experiment…have you tried keeping the crate in your bedroom?? I’ve always started pups out in the bedroom, but in a crate…being able to hear your breathing, your heartbeats, etc, can quiet a pup…it might be worth a try…let her whine for a while, before deciding it isn’t going to work…

Answer #6

ty, you put puppies in a cage at night so that they do not get lost or wander away. Especially when they are very small.

Answer #7

well last night she barked from 3am on wards then 6 am onwards… she was in her cage with the blanket over with buddy. I dont really want to get into the routine of her being in my bedroom.. but am willing to try anything. maybe I will carry on with what im doing then if a else fails then ill put her in our room… its just so hard.. I love her to bits but just feels like everything I try to atop her barking does noting :(. I have her one of those safe balnkets but that does nothing :(
