What's traditional in your country may be a strange delicacy for another! What might seem revolting to you, might be a common food for another! What is the weirdest, strangest food you have tried? Like deep-fried turkey testicles or wriggling octopus tentacles from South Korea.
For myself, I think the weirdest I have tried is pork blood jelly or fish eyes, not that strange at all. I've also tried some sort of lizard/reptile meat, not sure what it was exactly. I've also tried bird's nest, or bird spit. I want to, in the future, be able to try all sorts of food, weird or not!
Hello Janice, I didn't really try any"strange"food until I either, went abroad on holiday or for my work. The idea that I had was to fully embrace the culture wherever I happened to be. The food I ate was mainly fish based,Red snapper, shark(nice),octopus (a bit chewy,It must have died of natural causes!). I liked shark, you said it was OK but tough, you must have been chewing on the soles of its feet! Ha,Ha,.....no it's not funny is it? The food in Turkey was new to me ( I don't get out much ). It was mainly vegetable based and I don't remember eating anything unpleasant, Funny thing though, they hardly eat anything hot,not spicy hot, just about warm. Very nice food though, most of it is fresh not processed. There's nothing I've eaten as exotic as you and some others have tried. I must say, I was glad I had eaten before I read about Fafaru!! Stick to good fresh food when you can.You are what you eat. All the best.... Itwasim.
Octopus and squid isn't weird to me at all, I love it haha. Neither is fish eyes, it's actually pretty good. Ummm weirdest thing I've eaten is Fafaru, which is a Tahitian dish. It's fermented fish in fermented coconut milk. It smells like a giant stinky fart and it doesn't taste very good to me >_<
Oh that sounds weird! :O Would love to try it haha, just to try it. Reminds me of this, pretty common Chinese dish that my dad loves; stinky tofu. It smells like sewers and ass ;o but apparently it's really tasty, never had the chance to try it though.
Night crawlers. (survival training) Cooked over an open fire. We gutted em and flattened em out to try and make em look like bacon. Have also eaten aligator, snake and well the rats, I didn't eat it. I threw mine in the jungle overgrowth.
Ha,Ha,Ha, you haven't lived until you've eaten Tripe & Onions. Oh the thought of bleached cows stomach lining cooked for 3 hrs, aligned with strong fresh onions. What a delight!!.....retch....retch....what's for pudding?
I had Shark - its ok but tough, I had buffalo (bison) meat - not bad, Octopus (ate to much got sick), Squid - almost like Octopus but greasier, and the last was fish soup - dont like my food watching me lololol
Janice, This may not seem strange to those that love sushi but I thought it was super weird when I was eating jelly fish! I've got the pic to prove it too. It actually tasted pretty good!
Ooh I've tried all of that before :D didn't quite like shark or bison meat found them both too tough, maybe I didn't have it that great. Octopus and squid are ok when made right haha.
Frog. O.O lol it was in some Vietnamese restaurant. Lol. It actually kinda tasted like chicken but kinda different. Lol not very strange but for me, it is xD
Tofu cheesecake, it was disgusting at first and hard to stomach but after two or so slices the tofu cheesecake won me over.
Ox tail soup, cow's brain and chicken feet. O yeah, cow's tongue. Golden seal is the worst though.
Haha, that's actually quite common being Chinese XD I don't like that stuff though!
i havent tried anything too weird. only Alligator
Tripe ... why do people eat this? Seriously?
Various forms of Sushi!
