Is it possible to get an STI from being in a hottub with someone who has one?

If so, which ones would be transferable in this way? Hypothetical question…

Answer #1

No, the extreme heat of a hot tub would kill any diseases and infections that would be tranferable to you.

Answer #2

Ok, this is not really the kind of question I want to see my daughter posting o_O …but, anyway, no - you can’t. The worst you can get is a rash or skin condition from an improperly cleaned hot tub.

Answer #3

lol:)

Answer #4

Answer #5

Answer #6

from JUST being in a hottub? I would think no… I have heard a lot of mixed information on this though

Answer #7

haha

Answer #8

well if you are having sex in the hot tub then yes. But if you are not having sex then no. If the hot tub is treated with chemicals then the chemicals are to treat bacteria and virus so the likelihood is EXTREMELY low.

Answer #9

O yea. Use the friend angle. he, he..

Answer #10

I’ll admit that the risk of catching an STI from a hot tub is virtually nil but…

mandylou: the “extreme heat” of a hot tub is not hot enough to kill all diseases. Even boiling water isn’t hot enough to kill everything which is why surgical instruments are sterilized in an autoclave. Chlorine is a good sanitizer but only if the pool or spa is properly maintained with appropriate pH and chlorine levels and even correct levels of chlorine can take days to sanitize a contaminated pool. The frequent use of chlorine has even resulted in some germs developing partial immunity to it.

While getting an STI from a hot tub is unlikely a contaminated spa or pool can cause infections and make you sick. Be careful where you take a dip.
