How can I start a bible study?

Does anyone have any good ideas for starting a bible-study? I really want to start one but have no clue how. HELP!!!

Answer #1

I would start by inviting some similar minded friends over to your house. Ask the people who show up on the first time what they would like to study( i.e.: a book of the Bible, a book by a popular author, or topical studies) If you are scared of doing all of the teaching you could easily over come this by doing a rotation of either places or teachers. Have snacks. Mention this at your church as well, and they can probably put it in the bulletin. Just decide who this is for- (women, singles, teens, students, or everyone). Once you have finished whatever you intended to study- go back a revisit it to see if you want to change the study topic or direction. Eventually, the group may dissolve- this is not in any way a reflection on you, but rather this is more of a reflection on people’s busy schedules. Most importantly keep it fun- as a source of friendship and fellowship rather than trying to perform exegesis on certain passages.

If you have a favorite author say, Kay Arthur, Chuck Swindoll, or other well known bible teachers, they have resources available online to help you. You might want to go to your local bible book store and ask them for help. Most importantly though, pray about it, so that your choice will be what God wants for you. The purpose of a study is to become more familiar with God’s word so that we may understand it better and then put it into practical form. Choose a small group of people who are interested in getting together and pick your topic, Romans, Acts, etc. or a topic such as faith building or prayer. Then pick a place and a time suitable for everyone. Usually, a good bible study will provide the leader with the necessary information on how to run the study. It should explain how to keep things fun, exciting and learn all at the same time. God bless and press on. :)
