Why is starch converted into glucose inside the banana when it's mature?

I kn that there is an enzyme called amylase which converts starch to glucose, but why it has to do so? Why must the banana contain more glucose when it reachesaturation?? Thx :)

Answer #1

In grains starch is converted to sugar when the seeds germinate. Like us barley needs to convert starch to sugar before it can utilize it for energy. Fruit ripens for different reasons. Ripe fruit is more attractive to birds and animals who will consume them and distribute their seeds.

Answer #2

well, even though the Cavendish banana is a sterile fruit (no seedlings) it still goes through the natural order of decay just like every other fruit, it turns itself into an energy source (glucose) to help its seed get the energy it needs to grow….

logically speaking that is….
