What happens if you don't sleep for like, a week?

I heard there’s something that happens…like you have dreams while you’re awake or something? I really don’t know, that’s just what I heard. I’m full of random questions tonight :P

Answer #1

die ..

Answer #2

im serious !!! :D

Answer #3

you dont die, but studies have shown you can become delusional, irritable, nauseaous, have trouble with memory and develop tremours. In humans these symptoms are tempory, and disappear when you start to sleep normally again. Animals have much more severe rections to lack of sleep, where they lose weight but eat more, get really weak and lose the ability to regulate temperature and metabolism.

Answer #26

Well, I can tell you from experience that you won’t die. I went without ANY sleep for 13 days once.

Some symptoms may vary from person to person so don’t think this happens to all of us. The first couple of days, things seemed normal to me. My perception of objects, speech, and motor skills were fully intact, no problems. Around the 5th or 6th day, I could sense that my appetite had gone away. I no longer felt very hungry, mainly just able to drink a cup or two of coffee with a few bites of bread. Also, my mood was no longer happy. I felt angry and irritated.

Towards the 8th day, my motor skills became clumsy. I found it difficult to stand for a long period of time, and my depth perception was also beginning to deteriorate. At this time, I was probably drinking 3-4 cups of coffee to help from caffeine and I completely lost my hunger for anything solid. Around the 9th day, my ears started playing tricks on me. I began to hear things that weren’t there and see things that weren’t real. I also began to slur my speech badly to the point where I had to process what I wanted to say several times before actually saying it.

The real kicker was towards the 11th day and onward. This was where I could hardly feel in control with my body. My eyes became heavier than stones and I started feeling cold even while in the hot sun when it was 90F+. By this time, I couldn’t stand for more than 5 minutes without craving a chair. Appetite fully disappeared for me. I could feel my vision becoming crappier by the minute and my speech couldn’t even be called that. Finally, I simply crashed. It was around 8 A.M. and I remember putting my head down on the glass table in the hotel lobby and just sleeping in that position until around 10 P.M.

I never had trouble with memory, but I did have trouble talking. Hope this helped you with your question. :)

Answer #29

Sure thing. When it comes to lack of sleep, I am the expert on what happens. I am a human experiment. Lol.
