Is it possible for an adult to fight sleep like a baby and toddler (read more)?

you know when a babies really tired but refuses to sleep? is possible that some adults say like myself do it without realizing it. i will be really tired coming from work at eleven at night but won’t go to sleep until 3 or 4 hours after getting home. and no matter how tired i am during the day and if i have time to take a nap i can’t.

Well no offense but obviously it’s possible if you yourself is doing it… And it’s probably because after working [all day] you just want some free time to chill and do whatever and your brain senses that. My uncle Ricky did that too when I was in IL visiting my family when I was 15…

like maybe my brain needs to wind down. i mean i have tried to nap or go to bed but i can’t fall asleep.

Answer #3

That’s another thing too. Whatever you were doing (working, coming home, etc) must have had some type of exercise involved and therefore your body (and yes, possibly your brain) is probably waiting to wind down a bit before it let’s you sleep …

What kind of work do you do? And what keeps you awake all night?

If you work in an office, you might be mentally tired, but your body is still full of energy. In that case, you should do something tiring. Like a tough workout just after you get home. Then you eat dinner and do something relaxing, like having a hot bath. And that will slow you down.

If it is due to stress/ mental pressure and you can’t get the problems you work on out of your head when home, you could try doing some meditation or yoga. Or a cup of valerian root tea.

If you do physical work, then probably your mind is still hustling. You could try reading something boring or watching a boring TV show to get sleepy.

I’d say by what you describe, it’s most probably your nerves or stress. If this happens to you very often, you should see a doctor. Lack of sleep isn’t healthy and will burn you out. You can try meditating, working out or free/ natural anti-stress medications like relax-tea or relax-bath. But if it doesn’t help, go and ask a doctor.
