Would you sign up to a website if you couldn't read their ToU/FAQ without an account?

When I visit a website, I like to read their Terms of Use and their FAQ page before I create an account - it makes me decide if I actually want to have an account there. A site I checked out recently requires you to sign up before you can access these pages - the worst form of website coercion I can imagine to get people to sign up for your site. Naturally, I walked away without signing up. Do you read these pages before making an account, and if so, would this make you want to sign up to that site?

Answer #1

I usually skim through the FAQ but that’s about it…so if I couldn’t read them before I signed up it wouldn’t bother me unless I had to pay for the account, then yes it would effect my decision.

Answer #2

I read over the FAQ/ToU before joining. If I can’t read it there is a very good chance I won’t join.

I don’t like going into things without knowing what to expect and what the rules are. I believe site moderators have it hard enough, they don’t need more twits asking the same questions over and over again.

Answer #3

I always read over the ToU if it is a forum site, because I would like to know what is acceptable and what is not. Most sites do not have the same rules about what you are allowed to post. I do not read over the FAQ.

Answer #4

I want to be able to read the faq’s just like ur supposed to read a contract before signing it

Answer #5

i never read a tou before fa, curse you, curse you funadvice..

mind you i havent read 1 since lol

Answer #6

Absolutely not. I may not always read these things very intently before I join something (depending on what it is ofcourse), but actually not being able to read it unless I join up makes me a bit suspicious.
