Should I use a Pen Name?

I’m currently working on writing a book which I’m planning on self-publishing online. What I’m not too sure about is whether or not I should use a pen name. I want to use my real name for my family and friends to see it (and it is just fun to see your real name on a book) but I also think that pen names are really cool and you have a bit more control over it and all. I have about half of a good name (can’t think of a good last name) which I’m not sure if I should use or not.

If you’re writing a novel that you want to be taken seriously, make sure you hold all the rights before you publish it. Especially if you’re just releasing it online. As for a pen name, go for it. Just be sure that YOU (real name, that is) hold the rights.
