It sounds like herpes simplex 2 (genital herpes) Most STD screenings do not test for herpes. (common misconception) and you can contract it in many other ways other than sex.

Blood tests can tell you whether you have the antibodies against herpes indicating you have the virus but it will not differentiate which type you have.

Type 1 is oral herpes (cold sores on the mouth) and Type 2 is genital herpes (sores or lesions on the genitals) 90% of the adult population has type 1 and has mild or no symptoms.

Swabbing the lesion and growing cultures to test in a lab is the only way to tell if a person has type one or two. Both types can happen in the genitals or by the mouth.

Type 1 settles in nerves near the ears and comes to the surface at the closest mucus location(the mouth) Type 2 settles in nerves near the base of the spine and comes to the surface at the closest mucus location (the genitals or anus)

The first outbreak is usually the worse. Herpes is not a fatal disease but can effect your immunity. It has a bad social stigma, that’s really it.

You should see your health care physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

I’m no doctor, but it sounds like you may have genital herpes. It sucks, but it’s not serious or fatal. I could be wrong though, but either way you should see a doctor. If it is herpes, the doctor will be able to prescribe you medication to stop breakouts from happening too often, but unfortunately it is incurable.
