would you recomend for a new time driver to get a stickshift or normal?

Answer #1

Get an automatic - it’ll be easier for you to learn to drive, then if you wanted to learn how to use a standard afterwards, you only have to focus on making the car function, not actually driving.

Answer #2

Automatic is definitely way easier to drive.

Answer #3

its good to know stick, but get an auto.

Answer #4

gearstick..

automatics are boring cus you dont actually drive, you just sit there and steer.

Answer #5

my mom says i should get a stick cause then i wont get distracked and text.

Answer #6

Uhm? Once you learn how to drive a stick, it’s just as easy to get distracted. Stick shifts dont have great resale. That is not a good reason to by a stick shift.

Answer #7

Most sport and performance cars still have manual transmissions. I vote for the manual because if you know how to drive a manual you will be able to drive an automatic but if you learn on an automatic you will not be able to drive a stick. One of my first jobs was parking cars at a country club. I got to park all the sports cars because I was the only valet who could drive a standard.

Driving a standard is more fun than an automatic. The driver has complete control over which gear they are in and when it will shift. It is true that fewer cars are sold with manual gearboxes than in the past but knowing how to drive one still comes in handy.

also, most teenage guys are suitably impressed when gals can drive a standard.
