Answer #2

Why even take the chance your 2 year old might get hurt or worse ?

Answer #3

My answer is, there is no answer to this Question. It’s very debatable and is more of an opinion than anything else. Some people will say they are very dangerous and some people will say they are the sweetest dogs. This is what I say-

I think the reason Pit-Bulls are considered ‘dangerous’ because of the reputation they are given, AND because some sick, cruel people breed them this way. Owners ultimately are the one to blame.

If you raise your Child with the Pit-Bull Puppy, the should be fine together. I don’t see any problem in that. If you get an Adult who’s been trained to fight, that’s when there’s a problem.

Pit-Bulls are NOT Guilty, yet NOT innocent. No dog is. I don’t care if it’s a Dalmatian or a little Chihuahua, the breed has bitten someone.

When I was seven I was bit on the arm and required several stitches. But the Dog was not to blame, and I do not resent that dog at all. The owners were very irresponsible and let the dog run around the streets. They did not train him or anything.

Did you know, usually when a “Pit-Bull” bites someone, that “Pit-bull” is usually a Staffordshire Terrier, or a Mixed-breed?

Answer #4

NO if you raise that dog right it wont turn on you okay just stay calm about it and by the way good for you getting a pitbull thats my fav breed, go to www.bad rap.org or com I forget and read all those stories finally someone wants a pitbull other than me!!!

Answer #7

Pictures don’t mean anything sgt harris, just like when a person smiles into a camera, that doesn’t mean they are happy. Are you the one trying to argue with Macy, very mature. You’re a grown man (I think), you should know better!

That is Macy’s opinion and also mine too, if we don’t RECOMMEND them you shouldn’t be immature about it and say that stuff. I think a vet doctor knows more than you, if they say that pitbulls are one of the most dangerous dogs, they are.

Answer #8

Yes, Pitbulls are dangerous. My neighbor across the street from me had a pitbull that had 8 puppies. That dog must have gone mad. The ordinance officer picked him up aftrer he attacked a child next door. He also picked up the 8 puppies. I don’t understand if you have a 2 yr old and have heard stories about pitbulls, why you would even consider getting one. I would take Macy’s advice and get a gentle & loving dog.

Answer #9

Some can be very mean but it just depends on how you raise them. Most mean pitbulls dont get enough TLC so they are mean.Just make sure you get them as a puppy and give them lots of TLC!

Answer #10

I OWN 2 PITBULLS AND 2 SHIHTZU AND ONE CAT AND THEY ALL GET ALONG. THEY ARE THE BEST DOGS THAT YOU CAN EVER GET. I ALSO HAVE A DAUGHTER AND THEY LOVE HER. ITS JUST THE WAY YOU RAISE THE PITBULLS.. I WOULDN’T TRADE MINE FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD…

Answer #11

awww

Answer #12

abslolutely not… a dog is only as good as its owner… I have had several pitbulls… and they have all grown old without any incidents. We had a dalmation mix that attacked the paperboy and became threatening … I think she went nuts from having her first litter on her first heat… because she is the only dog we had that got “weird”/// its unfair that pitbulls get a bad rap.. yes they are dog agressive.. but can be socialized… I now have a pitbull rottweiler mix who is the nicest dog to everyone. He is two.

Answer #13

There are no violent or dangerous breeds of dogs. Just violent and dangerous people. A dog is like a child you mold it to be what you want it to be.

Answer #14

I had had pitbulls puppies as young as three weeks and they werent violent it all depends on how the owner raises them. I personally thing there lovely. I have had many pit bulls..blue nose, red ect. and they are great dogs in bred right and trained right, in a loving home treated as part of the family they turn out wonderful. Mine is a baby and loves my 3 and 7 yr old. Some people own pit bulls and try to make them big bad killers to make up for what they are lacking, if raised right they are an excellant choice. But as you know everyone has there own opinion on the matter, and opinions are like a…holes, everyone has one =) good luck

Answer #25

NO, there is no such thing as an evil animal. Pitbulls seems dangerous because it’s the way how their owner raises it. If the owner is cruel, mean, or abusive, it’ll be more aggressive. If it is raised properly, it will not be.

Answer #34

pitbulls are no different than any other dog. mean people own mean dogs period. I have owned nothing but pit pretty much my whole life nad because my dad and I have been responsible owners I have never had a problem.

Answer #35

I think any dog (like a pitbull) gets a bad rep from chance instances where those breeds are put into incompetent owners’ hands and based on how they were brought up, become violent and attack people. There’s a lot of factors that go along with creating a dog’s temperament other than predisposition. There’s so many factors that go into creating a dog’s temperament other than the genetic predisposition that comes along with the breed. Just as there are so many cases of dogs being bad, there are cases of dogs with a “dangerous” temper being really docile and loving and staying that way.

I don’t honestly think you can look at the TV or read the newspaper and make a valid judgement about buying any breed of dog on those stories about people who own fighting dogs and get caught. Each case is individual, and you really have to put your own efforts into making your own dog act how you want it to. Just as humans teach their children to behave.

My best friend has a 1 year old female pitbull and it’s the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. She’s very submissive and just like a child. She listens and obeys exceptionally well. I mean, I get on the floor and play with her all the time and all she ever does is try to kiss and lick me. So I can’t really understand this whole “pitbulls are bad and evil” bandwagon everyone is jumping on. And that’s the general consensus of all the people who own pitbulls.

It’s going to be very different if you buy an aged pitbull vs. a puppy. With an older dog, it’s usually already set its ways and formed its habits. When you get a puppy, you can train it and teach it how you wish (with effort!!) which means if you raise it around dogs and correct any bad behavior that sparks, you can probably teach it to be friendly towards other dogs. How the dog acts is largely based on the human factor of it.

Answer #36

No. They are puppies. They are no different from any other breed. Like any other, you need to read up on how to take care of a dog and proper training. These dogs are classified as one of the best family dogs. Statistics show that in the u.s. german sheperds cause the most dog bite cases there is, not the american pitbull. I have three children and a pitbull. She is a baby and like one of my own children. I have two cats that she runs from. She was even bashful towards the kittens they had at one time. She is very energetic and they need a lot of attention and exercise. The breed is misjudged. You dont see on the news when they are good you only see the bad cases. There are several other breeds that look very similar to the pitbull, no all cases you hear on the news are actually pits. Use your own judgemnt and do some research. You need to go to sites that explain all breeds. Or else all your going to find on the net are negative peoples thinkin.

Answer #37

A Pitbull was a mixed breed that never should have happened. There is no such thing as an original breed. This dog came to be thru mixed breeding and became quite popular as a guard dog. However due to it’s mixed breed the flaw that came to be regarding Pitbulls is that the brain keeps growing while the skull stopped. This takes a few years to occur. Pitbulls in general are not violent dogs, unless you train them to be. However once a Pitbull reaches about 8 to 10 years of age, thats when they start to experience incredible headaches due to the brain constently gowing. Picture having a migraine 24/7 for the rest of your life. This is why Pitbulls go mad, and that is why it’s highly recommended that once it reaches about 7 years in age, that it be put down.

Answer #38

I actually was in the city of rochester one day and a lady drove by and tied this girl pit that was 3 years old up to the telephone pole and left saying she didnt want it anymmore–that is the best dog I’ve ever had and she listens very well better than any other dog I’ve ever met– they make very good friends and are very very loyal - you jsut got to make you have something for them to chew on - toys- rawhides– they have lock jaw so it will int4nse their urges to chew on things.. and I also forgot to tell that I have 2 otherdogs a masiff/pit mix and a min pin chiua mix and she more calm then the redt of them pits are soo misunderstood its all on you raise them just like any other dog you teach it to fight it will but if you treast it right it will be right

Answer #39

PITBULLS arent bad dogs you will be getting them young and it all depends on how you raise the dog. my boyfriend has 2 pits. they are sweethearts both rescued from abuse and neither of them have violence issues they are only agressive when another dog comes into their territory. When I sleep at his house both of them climb up on me they are very loving. the pits are 2 and 5 they also have an older dog whos 14 which they get along great with so YES I BELIEVE PITS ARE GOOD PETS

Answer #40

I am getting really annoyed with these dumb small minded people talking bad about pitbull terriers. I have owned a red devil pitbull for 14 years and I also have two of her puppies from birth. Firstly, there is no such thing as a mechanism which enables them to lock their jaw it is a myth. Next thing is they are the same as humans. If you breed ANY ANIMAL or human to be violent, then they will indeed be violent. My dogs have grown up with love and affection and their only goal is to look after my children and please me at every opportunity. Naturally these dogs wil excell at any task given to them which unfortunately includes fighting. The dogs that attack humans you can guarantee have been either bred for fighting or have been ill treated. The police are quick to ban pitbulls but why not man dobermanns who have a history of more murders than pits? Any why have they not done post mortems on pits? This would prove they are born with perfectly normal brains and do not have some fantasy cells which would make them any more tempremental than any other dog. Also I would like to make a comment on the recent death of a young girl in England. HER UNCLE WAS INVOLVED IN DOG FIGHTING!!! He was purposely breeding dogs and keeping dogs for dog fighting!!! So how do you think those dogs were kept? I will tell you, he was probably kept in a dark cupboard most of the day and tossed raw meat. Beated with metal rods at every opportunity, sliced with a knife to get him used to pain tied to a treatmill for hours on end and beaten if he tried to sit, trained with a sleeve that fits on a persons arm and told to totally tear it apart or get beaten, starved for days to encourage anger, tell me, how would you react to humans if you had an opportunity to be around a weak one for a second if you were treated this way? WAKE UP PEOPLE and do some research!!! Oh and just for the record, my neighbours son would be dead today if it were not for my dog who jumped in the sea to drag him out, its funny when I wrote to the papers about it they didnt want to know. The police need to take some responsibility and instead of destroying loving pets, go after the breeders that breed for fighting dogs, go after the organisers of dog fights and go after the owners that abuse their animals. But no its far easier for you to say its due to the animals nature huh!!

Answer #42

SO Many ignorant- STUPID people here. Its all in the hands of the owner. Any dog can turn on you. Just as any person can. Our minds work alike. I say if its 8 weeks old you should try it. I may be weary of getting an older one if I didn’t know how it was brought up- but that would be the same with any dog. Its all up to the owner how it acts. Give it time, love and attention and you will be rewarded with a friendly, loving dog. I think they are just like people. Some probably can be idiots-as some people on this thread.

Answer #43

Yes there are a lot of debates about this. My father breed both blue noses and red noses(not together). I’ve been around pitbulls my entire life. Heck, I used to climb and ride on the back of my fathers biggest PB, major. Keep in mind his father was a prized fighting dog in miami. They are very couragous and loyal dogs…IF IN THE RIGHT HANDS. It really is about how you raise it, how your speak to it, how you act around it. They can be wonderful, loving dogs, if you have the time and patience to be there every step of the way. I’ve owned so many dogs, and by far, my pit bull has been the best and most rewarding.

Answer #44

I have two pitts from birth and I have two grand babies and my pitts are like two big babies they run at bath time and hide at the foot of the bed like I cant see em they wait at the door on grocery day because they know its treat day they are just big babies and I also have a chihuahua which they have never hurt they all eat out of the same dish. a pitt is like any other dog its all in how you raise em and by the way they are inside dogs so no chance in introducing them to provocation or mean people who think they ought to be out lawed … darlene love them and they will love you

Answer #45

LOL at all the lies and hysteria in the replies here. First off, “Pit Bull” is not a breed of dog just FYI. Its a number of breed grouped into one name by the mass media. The American Pit Bull Terrier and the Staffordshire Terrier are just two of the breeds people group into the “pit bull” name.

As a person who works rescue and has worked firsthand with dogs of all breeds, I can say from personal experience, that “Bully breed” dogs are as well mannered as any dog that is treated well by their owner.

Do not be a fool and fall into the blind media hype you watch on TV. The people there make news to sell adds and make money. Do some real research on your own.

No matter what breed of dog you get, get formal training together with your dog. That will ensure you are going to have a well adjusted dog. Best of luck.

Answer #46

awe well I got a 5 month old pit mix and he is the sweetest thing. He does like to play rough but that is because he wrestled with his dad untill we got him, but at the dog park he is quite shy and he likes to play with the smaller dogs instead of the bigger ones. He tends to think he is a lap do too, but that is a challenge because he is about 50 pounds already. But it all depends on how well you train the puppy. Im sure you will do fine. All the breed really wants to do is please its owner, and if the owner wants him to fight or me rude then it will and that is where the agressivness comes from, and thats why people think they are bad dogs. But they can be the sweetest dogs, you just need to give them a chance.

Answer #49

I have to agree with the rest Pitbulls get a bad rap, much of that has to do with the way the media portrays them, they portray them to be nasty and aggressive, believe me they are not, my boyfriend and I have 3 dogs, two,one of which is an American Bull Terrier and the other is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they are both playful and loving, enjoy diving into our above ground pool, love riding in my car . My little Staffordshire , actually smiles real big when I take her over to my mothers house, as soon as I say “We are going to grandma’s house, she jumps in my car ,ready to go.When guests come over she puts on her big girl smile and greets everyone with big wet licks, lol. Both my dogs are very docile, I can put a piece of food into my mouth( hanging off the edge of my lip) and either one of them will take it out very gently. Any dog can be trained to be mean, or aggressive, years ago growing up I was bitten on 2 different occasions by a neighbors chihuaha, now thats nasty, I was minding my own business in my parents Yard, when the dog came over and bit my leg for no apparent reason. So any dog can have that trait.

Answer #53

I hate hearing how people think pits are mean dogs. I had a poodle when I was little and that dog was hateful and mean. I had a pit when I got older and my son was born. That turned out to be the best dog I have ever had. pits can be mean if their owners train them that way and so can any other dog. Pits can be gentle just like any other dogs. If you raise them right they will be a great dog for you and the family not to mention loyal.

Answer #54

Pit bulls were actually bred to be kind to humans. I volunteered at a shelter than took in pitties and they truly are the sweetest, goofiest, very loving dogs!

Listen, if I trained by chihuhua to be a viscious killer since Day 1, it would turn out to be that. Pitties love their owners so much, they’d do anything for them, and they are very smart dogs. Thus, they are easily trained to fight when they fall into the wrong hands and have a high tolerance for pain as well. This poor breed is a victim of rotten people who use them to bet and make money off the poor dogs pain. All but 2 of Michael Vicks pitties found homes, you know!

so in answer to your question based on experience is no no no!!!

Answer #55

IM pretty sick of people running around talking about how violent these animals are. So I figured id list some facts.

1.The American Temperament Testing Society shows a pass percentage of 84.1% for pit bulls, which is slightly higher than the Golden Retriever at 83.8%. http://www.atts.org/statistic Bryanrd (talk) 04:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

  1. APBTs (American Pit bull terriers)were never bred for human aggression or guarding behavior.

  2. APBTs were never bred for dog fighting. People chose to take these animals because of there strenght and look and misused them, to fight other APBTs. This could be done with anydog.

  3. They enjoy the company of humans and are notorious for their loyalty to their masters, even giving their lives for them.

  4. AKC lists APBT as one of only 3 breeds that are ‘great with children’

Answer #56

I used to feel that pitbulls could be and were loving dogs. That they were only catagorized as mean and vicous. That changed a couple of days ago though. My cousin was walking my pug down a friendly neighborhood street, with children running around. There was no beware of dog sign yet they had a dangerous dog that ran lose. Needless to say he ran out of the house and attacked my dog, and this wasnt the first time he attacked a dog. What if its a child next time? The owner claims him to be a nice dog. Miracoulsey my dog is alive, his side is torn up though and we have hundred of dollars in vet bills. I dont think that pittbulls are proper pets, they can change its in there blood to be attack dogs.

Sorry about the bad spelling

Answer #57

This is from the UK and says it all.. yes they are classed as dangerous. Pitballs in the UK have to be muzzelled and I believe castrated or spayed to avoid breeding. There was a series of viscious attacks on children that lead up to this ban.

The government has taken several steps to try to crack down on those who breed and trade dangerous dogs, as well as those who own them

The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is the most prominent of the various laws that cover dog ownership in the UK.

The act bans the breeding and sale or exchange of four kinds of dog - pit bull terriers, Japanese Tosas, the Dogo Argentinos, and the Fila Brasileiros. Cross-breeds of those dogs are covered by the law.

Answer #58

A pitbull? Yeah those dogs are very violent. My neighbor has one and it attacked someone. They almost died! I would deffinitley NOT recommend them, especially if you have a child! Your kid is much much more important than getting the wrong breed. Also they are known for turning on their owners/family. I would recommend getting a lab! They are so protective, loving and loyal! But its your choice in the end. But yeah, please really think it over about getting a pit bull, they are not a kind/gentle breed of dog. Oh, and YES even if you train him, he will most likely still turn on the other dogs/poodles/animals too.

Answer #59

I have had pit bulls for 15 years. They have slept with my children as they were growing up. They are now grown and on their own. I have two pitbulls that sleep with me and the kitten every night. They’re good with the ferret and the other animals that share our home. These dogs are fantastic dogs - when bred right. When responsible people do it the right way. In-breeding (which is often done by backyard breeders and puppy mills) are the biggest problem. You get unpredictable behaviors and sometimes dangerous animals. Go with someone who can prove the lines are clean. Ask for papers. Ask to see mom and dad. The living quarters they keep will give you a clue. Is the home clean? Are the dogs kept well? What kind of food are they eating. Are the parents keep up on with shots and medications such as Frontline and heartguard?

Yes…they can be dangerous in the wrong hands, but take your precautions and you can be pretty sure you will have the best dog you will ever be blessed to call a companion.

Here are a couple of websites to help inform you more on this fantastic breed. http://www.workingpitbull.com/ http://www.badrap.org/rescue/owning.cfm http://www.pitbulllovers.com/ http://www.heartsofgoldpitrescue.petfinder.com http://www.pbrc.net/email.html http://bless-the-bullys.tripod.com

Answer #60

something else you should know if you are going to get a dog.. any dog,.. and that is POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT!!!… never never never hit your dog to discipline it. if your dog does not fear you, he wil lbe loyal and perfect ine very way… but if you instill fear, he will not trust you… just like people… all those pitbull naysayers dont have pitbulls of their own or have no business owning a dog of any breed in the first place. and one more thing… watch the dog whisperer. Pay attention to his lessons. He will teach you that it is the owner, not the dog that needs to learn how to behave… if you notice ,,, most of Cesar’s dogs are pits and pit mixes… any dog, but especially bully breeds need a lot of interacting and dedication. If you are willing to make your dog your best friend and constant companion, you cant go wrong. and that goes for ANY BREED… even loopy dalmations :)

Answer #61

it all depends on how you raise them people classify them as dangerous becausause they were bread(sp*) to be guard dogs my brother and sister both got there pitbulls in the ghetto when they wer pups and yes as babies when not knowing better the can apply a lot more force with there jaw than that of a full grown dog that is a different kind I personally think that whoever tells you that all pitbulls are dangerous is a lier and there storys cant back anything up they dont attact for no reason there is a reason evrytime even if its not a very good reson that just shows that the owner is not very good at training my brother likes his to be all mocho but his fiance cuddles him and he looks llike a baby so his personality changes but my sisters is a huge suck but they like to guard there owners or people in the family a lot and there very playfull and dont know there own strength so be carefull but there just like any other dog

Answer #62

Pitbulls have been bred to be a fighting breed in some hands. I have heard of people that bred for only fighting and would actually kill off the docile puppies. This is what you may incounter.

I believe that the dog is not what has caused this animal to be unpredictable or vicious, it is people.

Any breed may be vicious in the wrong hands. I recently rescued a young Bichon that had never been handled. He never bit me but my husband not thinking chased him and grapped at him one day right after I got him. He torn into my husband and was like a chain saw. After that he got my husband again because of then being afraid of him.

So the point in the above story is any dog not treated or handled correctly can be vicious. But the poor Pitbull having been bred for fighting and also for his jaw that is so dangerous has many strikes against it. If you are not experienced with this bred or dogs of this size or temperment, stay away. Get a family dog bred for the family not to fight.

Have you ever had a dog before? I’m only asking because experience counts for much in dog ownership…Pitbulls, Rotties, German Shepherds, Dobermans are gladiator type dogs…they are bred to be dominant…they are also, high energy, high intelligence…if you’ve never owned a dog of your own, maybe a Pit wouldn’t be the best choice for you.

I haven’t decided if it’s bad people or purely ignorant people who have done the most damage to the Pitbulls…the dogs themselves, are the only innocent parties in any Pitbull legislation. I see a lot of ignorance in this thread. People used to make dogs work…all the breeds you see above had jobs in some form or another…now people either want to treat them like “children”, or hold them in “couch potato” mode. Has anyone ever noticed when you read about a Pitbull attack, that it’s usually 2 or more dogs…?

If I were you, I’d get educated on the breed…only get your dog from a reputable breeder, one where you can see the parents…BOTH OF THEM…

I have 2 pit bulls. my oldest one is 2 years old. I just had a baby and she is great with him. she knows she cant play with him and she has to be gentle with him. she has never been mean with anyone or any animal. I also have one of her puppies. he is also a great dog. he just doesnt have the baby concept. he has to be watched. he will jump on my son and lick him. pitbulls ARE NOT MEAN!!! it is how they are raised. back in the day pits were raised to fight. it all depends on how they are raised.I spent a lot of time with my dog and she is very spoiled. she goes on car rides with us and even sleeps on the bed.I got her when she was just a baby and she has been so wonderful. and yes they are protective but she has never attacked. she will just bark. so I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Answer #65

Pitbulls are NOT dangerous, it is the owner that causes these dogs to get bad reputations. Like every other breed it depends on how you raise the dog, and if you raise it around other dogs and introduce it to children/socialize the dog then he will be better behaved. I have 3 pits, one APBT one Blue pit and on pit/lab mix. My dogs do get deffensive when they feel threatened ( like any animal) but a child could break into our house and not get harmed because we have trained our dogs to never be aggressive towards children. Please if you are going to get a pit don’t fight it or mistreat it owners like that are giving my dogs a bad name.

Answer #66

I myself have ptbull, and in the uk pitbull only have to be muzzled if they have beentested and certified dangerous… my own pitbal is daft as anything, pitbulls are only dangerous when they are trained to be!! LIKE ANY DOG!!!

Answer #67

Btw, even if you hear other people tell you that their dogs (that are pitbulls) are good, doesnt mean that yours will be. I have heard so so so so many times, that they attacked an elderley woman, and also a 5 yeah old kid. He was just walking to his friends house across the street and the pitbull attacked him! He didnt die, but only because another neighbor had to come and restrain the dog. He was going to shoot it too. The kid was very badly injured. I felt so bad for him. He was mauled very badly. AND the pitbull didnt even have a reason to do it. He had never done it before, he just was unpredictable. Hope I helped! Good Luck!

Answer #68

They are only dangerous if they are trained to be. Our family pit bull loves kids. The worst she would do is lick them to death or accidentally knock them over. Pit bulls have a bad rep because of bad owners.

Answer #69

I think they are dangerous and to big to handle. But even the dogs with the meanest reputation can be nice if tratede properly. It is a very controversial issue. If I were you, I would NOT get the dog. They are trying to outlaw the where I live, and I hope they do. People in my neightborhood are constantly getting attacked by pit bulls b/c other people don’t keep them chained up or in their yard. They attack everyone and they killed my cats and my dog! I hate pit bulls! Plus, they’re really ugly.

Answer #70

I don’t know what the deal with pit bulls is. Years ago they were considered one of the best dog breeds to own. Now they seem too unpredictable. There are so many cases of dogs that were docile and loving their whole life without warning turning on owners or their children.

A lot of people claim the breed is just misunderstood. I know I wouldn’t chance it.

Dear njb1982, Here are examples of dangerous dog laws that have been passed this year:

In Kansas City, MO, the city council passed a law that requires all pit bulls to be spayed or neutered. Breeders will also have to install fencing and keep records about anyone who buys a puppy. Fourteen more animal control officers will be hired.

Overland Park, Kansas banned pit bulls in July. Current owners were allowed to keep the dogs they had, and a July 27, 2006 deadline to register their pit bulls.

Owners in Illinois who allow dangerous dogs to run loose or who do not enclose, spay, or neuter an animal that injures or kills someone will face prison time. Felons are also not allowed to own dangerous dogs. Sue…good luck

Answer #73

As a pit bull owner for many years, pitbulls are no born evil and they don’t turn on you. I have 3 kids, ages 12,9 & 7 and I had my pitbulls, one for 14 year, 5 years and now a 4 month old pup. The oldest of all is the sweetest with my kids. It is all on how you raise them. If you plan to have them behave very aggresive from young. Expect them to know that being aggresive is the way they suppose to behave. Pitbulls are smart dogs. My dogs were raised with love and playfulness. They are the sweetes thaey can be with the kids. They take turns feeding themand no once they turned on them while they stood there watching them eat. But they are very protective of their property. They know to gaurd their land, their home and their family. Wouldn’t you? They are loyal dogs and friendly, only if you raise them right.

Answer #74

No, not all pit bulls are mean. It all depends on how the dog has been raised. It is always best to get any type of dog when it is still a puppy, no matter whether it was a chihuahua or a pit bull. That way the dog and the child can grow together. I had a pit bull for 10 years before he died. We got him when he was a puppy and he proctected me and my sister, and yes we were the ages of 1 & 5 when we got him. He did not like if mom or dad tried to correct us. My dad and his friends did fight them, which I know now as a an adult is very wrong, but that never made him turn on us. Their was also a time when a we were outside playing a strange dog came up to me and my sister and was snarling and growling, and the pit bull went and defended us. He was a very good dog, never hurt anyone, and unless told or thought some was in harm’s way hurt another animal. Now, I have a 6 year old and would not think twice about buying a pit bull pup. Me & my husband argue about it all the time. But if they are raised good and showed loved and showed not to be aggresive then they are wonderful dogs. I know right now my Chihuahua would bite me faster than my rottweiler. So goes to show you that all big dogs are not mean.

Answer #75

Do your research. We have a pit bull puppy and we have 4 small kids. Ok. Everyone that lives around here owns a bulldog of some sort. I have never known a bad pit bull. Noone around here has. Now if you bring a weenie dog around here we tend to get jumpy. They are vicious lil critters. All dogs can bite. It is all about raising them up right, socializing them from the day they are born, and letting them know that you are a pack leader. Just do your research. Don’t listen to anyone but your gut feeling. If you think he will be a great dog for YOUR family, then get him. If not don’t. Everyone will have opinions on this subject. All, I can tell you is that I have never had any trouble at all, and noone around me has. Just don’t believe everything that you hear in the papers and on the news. Most of the time it’s not a full blooded pit, it is normally a mixbreed with ignorant owners. Punish the deed, not the breed.

Answer #76

I have a pitbull myself and she doesnt hurt anyone except those she dontknow that walk into our but eventhen she dont hurt them and when she bites she wont bite hard unless youre abusive but she doesnt bite little kids any way. I think you should get the pitbull because they are great dogs

Every dog can be mean or violent it just depends on the OWNER of the dog. So dont listen to those other people and I know this for a fact because my Aunt Mary is a Vetinerian.

Answer #77

Well, judging from the grammar and vocabulary of your question, I can assume that you are either: A: in the third grade or B: an ignorant pet owner who perpetuates the stereotype of redneck/ghetto pit bull owners. This breed of dog has no usful purpose and should be eradicated. I have personally been attacked by one while walking my Doxie down my street. The pit attacked me first and then went after my dog. The owner of this Pit was irresponsible and could not or would not keep the animal confined. After a legal battle, the dog was put down and the neighbors eventually moved. The breed is not cute nor cudely.
