Should I get a puppy or a dog?

In my experience puppies are harder to deal with at first because you have to train them NOT TO PEE OR POOP ny where! And then you have to teach them how to fetch and stuff. But then dogs who are like 1 or 2 are more experienced. So My questions is… should I getta a puppy, or should I get a dog.

There are very few puppy people out there. They are cute and adorable and people get one and it turns out very badly. Visit your local shelter and take awhile to make your choice. Visit the dog (puppy) you like quite a few times, most will let you take the animal home on a trial visit after you have spent time with the animal over several visits. Read up on all the breeds that may be found in the animal if it’s a mix. Make sure it’s size, energy level and noise level matches your tolerance level. Hunters like Beagles are barkers, as are most herding breeds. The best dog I ever had was about a year old when I got her, she has been perfect for my family for the past 8 years. Good luck, dogs are great, know what your getting into, it’s only fair to the animal.

get a dog, adopt one if you can. you can train ANY dog to trust you or do any commands. everyone gets puppies and those poor creatures, older dogs, are left in shelters. they are living creatures that need care and love too! it’s like adopting a child and deciding that it’s just easier to get a baby because it’s cuter even though you have to potty train them when they grow up a little rather than deal with a slightly older child that might have problems already (because, let’s face it, someone didn’t want them) but can go to the bathroom by him/her self. that’s terrible, and people should be shamed on them selves for thinking like that. Most of those animals come from an abusive home, and they need care and love, it breaks my heart seeing that every day. I volunteer at a shelter and there is not a day that goes by I don’t wish I can take all the older animals home with me because It’s a given that no matter what, the puppies will be taken. IT’s not that I care less about the puppies, but that I care just as much about the older animals.

I think you should get a puppy because even tho you have to deal with the little accidents they have you know your getting a dog you can trust, like you can train him not to bite or jump up at people, elder dogs might not of had this training and could do it. So I think a puppy would be better but its your choice :)

Answer #4

A PUPPY. If you train them sooner they learn better and faster and they are cute and ofcouse you get to spend time with them and know them better.

Answer #5

If you don’t want to deal with all that peeing/pooping indoors and tearing up everything you own (OMG especially if they’re big dogs) just get a 1-2 year old dog. I still think that they’re a lot of fun :)

Answer #6

I think you should get a puppy!!!sure you would have to train it, but come on, a puppy???there so cute and fluffy, and besides, would you rather leave a puppy (like a baby) in a shelter, or the old dog that will die anyway??I mean yeah I absolutely love old dogs too, but but puppies are more energetic and lovable!! :D

Answer #7

Either, assuming you can find them at a local animal shelter. If you want the challenge and joy that comes with training a pup, that’s fine. If you just want companionship, go for a grown dog.

Answer #8

definitely a puppy! so you can raise it the way you want it and you get to love and be with it longer 2!

You need to make a list of what you want from the new member of the family and what you don’t want. then based on that should tell you weather you should get a puppy or adult. Shelters are loaded with young and old. Please remember that either way dogs cost money. I work for a vet and nothing is worse then when a client comes in and has an injured animal and it has to be put to sleep because they can not afford to fix it or make it better, I have attached a photo of a recent case where we had the animal signed over to us because they could not affored payment and the cat was very young, I am sad to say I have a lot of pic’s like this case.

You do have to spend a lot of time training a pup…but you also get a dog with no baggage…

An adult dog is over the chewing and some are housetrained…they don’t make you get up in the middle of night to pee…

Pros and cons on both sides.

Just make sure you’re prepared for whatever you get…(like getting a crate)…Until you get to know the dog, be it puppy or adult, it’s nice for them to have a place to go when you can’t be with them.

Answer #11

Get a dog, there are thousands sitting in animal shelters, some less than a year old but not technically puppies anymore, and people don’t want them.

Save a life =)
