Why is it that many things are made to protect against pregnancy, but only one to prevent stds?

Answer #1

thats a good point! i never thought nout that lol… hmmm no answer for this.. i think its just because there is nothing they can do from keeping it controlled and not spread, i think the biggest cure for this wohld to be not to sexually active, untill u r with that speacial person.. but good thinking!

Answer #2

with contraception pills (the ones that stop you from becoming pregnant), do so by stopping the hormones in charge of ovulation, meanwhile STDs are diseases, which vary. So with the contraception pills all you have to worry about are the hormones, which will probably only evolve to become resistant, if we evolve in such a way that makes it possible. On the other hand the diseases are able to evolve quickly, and this evolution can be faster, then the research we do into the disease, so we are trying to figure out something which is ever changing… sorry if my answer seems unclear, but please do leave a comment if you feel that way

Answer #3

Because the only way to prevent getting an STD is using barrier methods. A condom is a barrier method, and it works pretty well. There are a few other options for STD prevention (also barrier methods) but they are not as effective anyway, so why not just stick with condoms? There are more options for preventing pregnancy, which is why the majority of contraceptive only prevent pregnancy, not STDs. Altering hormone levels is never going to have any effect on the transmission of STDs, but it an effective form of contraceptive. Another reason is that hormonal contraception is great to use in a committed relationship, where you know the other person doesnt have an STD, but you dont want to get pregnant.

Answer #4

because stds can be caught by skin contact and fluid/blood contact. to prevent them you need to use a barrier, like a condom. pills can prevent pregnancy, but the cant prevent an std, because an std is a disease, and there is no pill to stop you getting a certain disease.
