How do producers of ads convince people to buy the products?

What techniques do they use?

Answer #1

They often convince you that it’s something you need rather than just want. That car is just so amazingwith it’s leather seats and its horsepower that you need it. That brand of jeans are so hot, everyone has it, you need it to feel sexy and fit in. Or that cologne smells so intoxicating that women willbe all over you. It’s a subliminal seduction in a way. Some techniques are bandwagon where they convince you that everyone has it, you need it to fit in. Another technique would be using sexual references, everyone knows, sex sells, although this often leads to rather sexist ads.

Answer #2

Psychology. First, you should understand that ads are a tool of marketing. Second, you should understand that marketing is understanding consumer needs and distributing goods to fulfill those needs in a competitive economy and society.

Marketing teams rely on creative thinking and communicating, building bonds with other people and establishing trust through empowering them to achieve what they desire. Simply put: marketers cater to consumers. Everything is very thought out, from the angles used to the colors and even the music. Certain things act as triggers and appeal to consumers. Sex, money, food, fun, etc.

Marketing teams know how to identify a problem. Then they essentially bring that problem to light. After a consumer thinks about the presence of that problem in their own life, they’ll want a solution, which is what the company who wants an ad put out has. So the ad is made, they put on TV or in newspapers and calls consumers to action.

A simple example is food commercials. You’re hungry, you see a commercial for McDonald’s or something, they talk about their delicious fresh food and how low the price is, and then without really suspecting it, you’re thinking, “that looks really good, I could go for a burger right now.”

Answer #3

They find out what an age group likes and include that in the ad. It’s all about stimulating your emotions. First comes the design, the lines and color. Second the gadgets. Third the mechanics. In that order, especially with women. Eye appeal, always. Forget about good or bad, it’s emotional appeal.

In women it’s emotional feeling, in men power.
