Pitbull pup

My pitbull puppy is 5 months.he is very protective when people come in the house that her dont no.does anyone no were I can do to make him not be aggressive.

Answer #1

First, he should be neutered. That will help his behavior quite a bit. Then socialization. I recommend the show “Its me or the dog” on Animal Planet. Victoria Stilwell is the host and an excellent dog trainer.

Answer #2

Spend more time and talk with him, teach him. The more time you spend with a dog, the easier you can teach him. Also, he will not be so mean with people if you and your family members spend time with him, talk and play with him, it’s easier for you to teach the dog. Remember, if a dog is lonely and confine, he is very mean and could be dangerous.

Answer #3

when he gets aggresive he is just being protective…just pop him on the top of the head a say a word that means the person is safe…”safe” eventually you will just have to say the word and your bull will back off.

Answer #4

danda09 is right, just a quick correction, and he will get it…hes so young now that it is going to take time…he is trying to learn everything he can. Teach him that it is NOT ok to charge at people like that. eventually you may not even have to say a word when certain people come over because he will learn their scent and he will know how they look. It just takes time, and patience.

Answer #5

the dog is not lonely.we play with him all the time.he is never home a lone.so I dont no what the problem is

Answer #6

I tried everything.he still wants to charge at the person and he is only 5 months.whats going to happen at 1yr old.

Answer #7

You are right, you need to get in control of this, you are the leader and you make the calls. Most dogs are protetive of there home and owner. But they need to know when you allow people to come in that it is fine. I would get this puppy outside to meet people off of his turf. As long as he had all his puppy vaccines and you don’t feel he could cause injury, get him out there. use a gentleleader collar. I would not Muzzle, Take the puppy to petco or petsmart, I would enroll in behavior classes. Always use a good firm voice when correting the dog. Do not shut, And you must be PERSISTENT you can’t scold him one minute then let him get away with it the next. Dogs will break there owners before we break them, Stay strong and they ladies on For the love of our dogs (in groups) will have some great advice also.

Answer #8

Ditto to harley and the socialization…the more people you see outside, the more opportunity there is for you to put your leadership at work. Right now the pup is testing himself…AND YOU…He needs basic obedience to learn to sit and stay…Have a friend practice with you…let them knock at the door, you put him a “sit/stay”…until that person has come in…he’s not allowed to move till you “ok” it. Keep a leash and collar on him, so you can do an instant correction whenever he starts being assertive. You DO want to nip this in the bud now…He’ll mature at about 18 months…by that time he’ll be too strong, and correcting him will be a big problem.
