Can a piercing do serious damage?

I want to get a frenulum lingaue (tongue webbing) piercing and I was wondering if that could any serious nerve damage or anything.

A lot of people tell me it’s a stupid/pointless piercing, but I don’t care about your opinions I just want to know how much damage it does.

And I don’t mean for that to sound rude.

It could do some damage if the piercer doesn’t know what they are doing and make a mistake. The first time my sister got her ears pierced her left ear swelled up to almost twice it’s normal size and she had to visit the ER. It was from something the piercer did, I’m not sure what it was though.

Yes o; If a peircing gets infected and gets into your bloodstream, you will be in deep sh*t and definitely have to go to a doctor and get treated. Also, I know in regular tongue piercings if you pierce the wrong spot, you can be paralyized. I’m not sure if that can apply to any other piercings but anywhere theres a nerve, it can be dangerous. But if you want it, go for it. You only have one life to live so live it without regrets. :) I think it’ll be cute.

Answer #3

In addition to what the above said, your body can reject the piercing.

Answer #4

There’s no major arteries or nerves there so it’s not dangerous. The only harm a tongue web piercing could do is give you an infection which is unlikely if you take care of it. They also have a likely rejection rate and if yours rejects it would cause you pain and you should take it out as soon as you feel the signs which will leave you with a bit of scar tissue. Pretty sure that’s it, nothing major. Go for it! :)

Answer #5

Sure, if it becomes infected and untreated…

Answer #6

They do have a tendency to reject over time. Depending on the anatomy of the individual, this piercing may not be feasible. Aftercare for tongue frenulum piercings can be more complicated than most other piercings, as the healing piercing will come into contact with anything that enters the mouth, including food and smoke which can cause irritation. It is an open wound in the mouth and therefore prone to infection. If the piercing is not deep enough, the body will “reject” or “push out” the piercing - It can cause plaque build up which can make things uncomfortable.

So here are the MAIN cons.

scaring hypertrophic scaring keloid rejection/migration

Answer #7

Depends on the piercing u can paralize yourself.
