you do need to get checked and treated. It could be causing insulin resistance and you could end up with diabetis. I have been dianoised with PCOS and have to take a metformin pill (used to treat insulin resistance) once a day. My sister on the other hand also has PCOS and didn't take her pills like she was insturcted and ended up with diabetis and is insluin dependent. So pls go get checked.
Having periods which are very irregular is called secondary amenorrhea, and can happen for a variety of reasons. You need to see a doctor about this. You may have a problem which could compromise your fertility if left untreated.
