Do you think it's okay for people to be asking about their weight concerns online?

“im 15 and i weigh 65kg”. personally, i don’t think it is a wise choice to be asking others online about their weight, because everyone has different body structures. For example, someone may weigh more because they have a fair amount of muscle mass and are tall. Maybe this question could be used as a rough indication, but what’s your opinion?

Answer #1

I think it depends on what they’re asking. In general I do think most people should talk to their doctor about their health concerns, but sometimes getting some tips or opinions from personal experiences can be helpful to someone.

Answer #2

Yes i think it’s ok to ask, as sometimes we may get good tips and it may help us out

Oh, it’s actually even better to eliminate the measurement unit in that question and add some uncontrolled emotion.

They should write “I’m 15 and I weigh 65. I feel so FAT :-( “. So half of the readers will believe that it’s 65 kg (130 pounds) and will assure the person that it’s a perfectly normal weight. And the other half will believe that it’s 65 pounds (32,5 kg) and tell them that they are dangerously underweight. Then a fight based on that misunderstanding will break loose. People will fight about whether the person who asked the question is anorexic and whether someone should call an ambulance fast, before they starve. Others will quarrel about whether a weight of 65 is anorexic or not. And in some thread people will have a dispute on which is the common measurement unit to be used for body weight.

Giving your body height in such a question is boring, unless you manage to cause another measurement unit quarrel with it.

I really don’t see how we can help them. We don’t know them, can’t see them, and are not doctors. Every person on the planet is different with different DNA, mentality ect.ect. The only thing you can do is listen and try to comfort someone if they are hurting and encourage them to get some help if they need it.

Answer #5

People ask other people to figure out whether they’re pregnant (yeah, coz we’ve got some sort of magical powers on here), what sort of illness they have from certain symptoms (especially mental health questions), whether they should take medication prescribed by their doctor, if they’re pregnant whether they should keep the baby, etc. These are all questions that are not appropriate to be asking online. People do it anyways. So this is just one more question better asked and answered by a doctor.

Answer #6

Eh, if they have a legitimate question having to do with their weight then I suppose it’s alright, but none of us can really know for sure, the answer to questions like that and the questions like, I weight such and such pounds, Am I fat? really piss me off. For the most part, people really need to just ask their doctor.

Answer #7

I think it’s fine. Some people just take it better if they ask a stranger because they have never met them or maybe never will. A real pearson it’s a bit more uncontorble and personal talk. On the internet, for some, it just works better.
