Why do people cover themselves in tattoos or dress differently and then complain when people look at them?

I myself have very visable tattoos that cant be hidden and look out of the norm for my small town, i knew before i even got the tattoos people would look and stare. Chris however, is covered, and complains everytime we go somewhere when people stare at us…i always ask him, well what did you think was going to happen?

Answer #1

Well, back when I had a mohawk I didnt think about the fact that people would stare at me or say abnoxious things to me. It’s not that them glaring at me bothers me, it’s the fact that they keep looking and looking. If they were to look for a couple seconds, turn away, pretend to look at something else, and then look back, i’d be fine with it. I’d like it if they were nonchalant about it. =/

Answer #2

I agree…as much as we would appreciate people to just accept us and all our idiosyncrasies, this is not a perfect world and people will stare at something they find out of the ordinary.

Answer #3

Nothing you can do about that…people always need to stair at something or someone that doesnt look as they do.

if you see an obese person in a restaurant you cant help but notice them & make some remark to whom ever you are with. (Dont you think that is embarrassing to the person you are staring at & making comments about?) Same with people that look too skinny being talked about called anorexic.(Think it doesnt make them feel like crap to be talked about liek that when in public?) It’s the same with people having many piercings all over…10 in the ears 1-2 on the brows…one in the nose…one on the tongue…some even have them on each side of the cheeks…then are also covered in tatts…(When people stair dont wonder why that is, It’s a natural instinct) Making rude slurs on the other hand is what makes it offensive! :( You can look, but staring is really offensive…so next time you see someone who looks different…just dont stair at them or make some sort of rude remark because people do hear it & notice the giggling & it makes them feel really uncomfortable & that is mean, & rude! Its up to you to let it roll off ur back & deal with society. In my opinion, you just have to feel comfortable in your own skin…obese, too thin, piercings, tatt’s in a wheelchair, on crutches…we all have to stop judging others & just accept people as people… No one is perfect…just be happy with you! :)

It was always a pet peeve of mine when people did that, or a girl wears an extremely low cut shirt then calls guys pigs for looking. It’s like hunny your asking to be looked at, if you didn’t want them to stare wear something that doesn’t show the goods. When I used to have piercings and if someone glared at me i’d just shrug it off, it’s there own deal I dont care there not effecting my life in anyway. My tattoos on the other hand are all hidden though so I never have to deal with anything for those.

Answer #5

Because people should learn not to judge. They aren’t complaining about how everyone looks at them differently, even though that’s what it sounds like, they are complaining at how shallow people our in society. They are complaining because something needs to change. They are complaining because people are so self-righteous and narcissistic. They are complaining because society wants everyone to be like everyone else. =/

Answer #6

I have no idea. People notice when others are different. It’s built in our brains, it’s a defense mechanism. If we werent able to spot safe from unsafe, we wouldnt have survived very long. Is it fair, maybe not. But it is part of life. If you dress like someone in a gang, people are going to have reactions. Dress differently, or deal with it. Same thing with brightly colored hair or tattoos. Things that are associated with deviants or trouble makers. Is it fair, no. But it is what it is. It’s not about being shallow. Humans need some sort of method to figure out safe from unsafe. Obviously not everyone who looks different is a danger, and some of the biggest crooks look like upstanding citizens. But it’s all we have. I especially think it’s stupid when women get boob jobs or wear low cut tops and then complain about men staring at them. Like, seriously?

Answer #7

Those ppl need to face the facts: if they look weird or different ppl r going 2 stare at them. its part of life even if it totally stinks. its great that ppl want to be unique but u have 2 deal with the consequences too.

Answer #8

they want the attention, then they want the pitty….its also a cycle of rejection leading to self rejection.

Answer #9

Maybe For Attention?

Answer #10

I dress differently (I live in Australia), I wear a headscarf and sometimes get stared at, but it doesn’t bother me. People are just curious, plus I’m a Euro Muslim, that makes people look twice! LOOL! I am certainly not dressing for attention, but people who do dress for attention, then complain about it are ridiculous.
