Do pennies and sugar actually help flowers last longer?

I was told that placing sugar and a few pennies in a flower vase could help flowers last longer. Is this true? If not, is there anything else that could help them live slightly longer?

Answer #1

I don’t think sugar but asprin helps

Answer #2

I thought it was ASA (aspirin) that helped…

Answer #3

Aspirin & hairspray.

Answer #4

Hmmmm, although copper has bacteriostatic properties…

Try both?

Answer #5

My mom always told me to pop two aspirin in the water and they will last a week or two longer and they did :-D

Answer #6

i agree with the asprin…also if you notice any discoloring at the ends of flower petals trim the ends of the stem about an inch or two becuase the ends may be closing up and not recieving the proper amount of water. Never put cold water inthe vase, not hot, but lukewarm is perfect. Also just keep it next to a window for some sunlight, they wont last forever but thats the best way to take care of them for a while.

Answer #7

I’ve Used Aspirin It Seems To Do Grand!

Answer #8

Aspirin does help. Ive used sugar on one of my plants before and it died. Two years of growing and I was advised to use sugar because it helps it grow “faster and longer” and it died the next morning.

Answer #9
