Germany invaded Poland on August 31, 1939, kicking off WWII.

The US didn’t get actively involved until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

The Germans surrendered May 8th, 1945 ending the War in Europe. The Japanese surrendered on August 15, 1945. The Japanese officially signed the surrender documents on board the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945, ending WWII.

World war 2 lasted from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945
