Can anyone tell me what this passage is saying?

Wasn’t a man born dying? Prison is a place of restriction and ultimately death, and what is our birth but an entrance into the prison house of life for which there is only one escape. As soon as we are clothed with life by God, that selfsame moment we take on the apparel of death. The skins of death beasts only serve to cover the skins of dying man. When the man came from the creator’s hand he was set a job to till the earth, but this very occupation is a symbol of death. We dig the earth to plant our wheat so we can eat bread but this timeless action is a timely reminder; we will return to the dust. Our brief life trickles out like a quiet leak from a broken cistern. Our life’s tale is all but told. The book of life draws to a close in the creator’s hand.

I should write an essay including what is below but i have no idea what the passage is about. Can anyone help me? State the writer’s main idea Identify the speaker’s main purpose Comment on the strategies and language techniques used.

To me it says, that you start to die the moment you are born. That all thing are born, live and then die, its the circle of life. It is the inevitable.

A man is born into a world of death, as good as dead, prison is a place of ^^^^ and our birth is just a way to get into prison for which the only escape is prison. As soon as we are ready to live, we get ready to die. We kill beasts only to make clothing to cover all men, who are all dying. When man was created by god he was made to do something but that something is just the cause of death. We farm to make food, but that is just reminding us of the death that awaits us, from hunger, Our short life is wasted and goes by unnoticed by the grand scheme of things like a small leak in a vessel. Our lives are all the same. They just have yet to happen. Life is done without saying.

That passage is about death and how meaningless a humans life is. That is really hard to decipher. What is it from? I think i did a pretty good job with it… Im only 13, how old are you?

Okay, so the writer’s main idea is that life is this metaphorical prison as such in which we are trapped until our only escape i.e-death. Note that the writer is using metaphors in his language technique which keeps the reader intrigued. The poem is generally quite pessimistic and focuses on the theme of death. His idea states that we have always been dying since the minute we were born and he obviously doesn’t think much of life either because he describes it as a ‘prison’. I’d say that the speaker’s main purpose is to challenge the reader, to intrique them and to make them think. He does this with use of rhetorical questions that you may include in the bit about language techiques used i.e, ‘Wasn’t a man born dying?’. This makes the reader think and challenges us. Language techniques also used include: alliteration i.e, prison is a place, close in the creator’s hand etc- helps to create rhythm and thus keep the reader stimulated. So…… IDEA= DEATH, WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DYING, JOURNEY, LIFE IS ONLY THIS PRISON THAT WE LIVE IN UNTIL OUR ESCAPE (DEATH) SPEAKER’S MAIN PURPOSE= CHALLENGE READER AND THEIR PERCEPTION OF LIFE, INTRIGUE THEM LANGUAGE TECHNIQUES USED=METAPHORS (there are plenty so you can use lots of examples), RHETORICAL QUESTIONS, ALLITERATION, I think that should do, hope it helps!
