How to get my parents to let me have a cell phone?

help me. my parents wont let me have a cell phone. im like the only kid in my school who doesnt! I have given them every reason why I should be allowed to have one but they still say no. its not fair. they compare me to when THEY were kids, but it’s not the 1970’s anymore. it’s the 2000’s and I think I am responsible enough. I just dont know what to do…

well you could tell them that the little sim card that goes in to phone is a tracking device so should anything ever happen too you the would be able to locate you its called a (G.P.S)

Answer #2

Well you’re like 13- I think it would be understandable if you were 16 and going places by yourself where you might become in a dangered situation- like breaking down in a car? Other than that, you shouldn’t be anywhere unsupervised, why would you need a cell phone other than “everyone else has one”

Answer #3

Kiddo. I didn’t get me first cellphone until I was 17. And thats when I got a job to pay for it. I also did prepaid and had a job to support it. To show your responsible is to take initiative for what you what and showing your parents you have a plan, not just begging them for something and comparing it to be a RIGHT. Cause it isn’t a right, it’s a priviledge.

Answer #6

Why does anyone NEED a cell phone? They don’t. If you had one your parents would be calling you all the time checking up on you, etc, and then you’d complain about that.

Answer #7

Answer #8

most of the kids in my class have one and one persons somtimes rings in the middle of class. I dont have one but I really want one. my friends sometimes show off about it. one person has a blackberry. but you really dont need a cell phone. all you do is talk to people, right? and you text which is basicly email. so get an e-mail and use your own phone.

Answer #9

Look, I’m 14, and I just got my first cell phone in September. Before that, I bought myself a pre-paid phone with some extra money. They aren’t that expensive, and after a year of using it, I showed my parents that I could be responsible with a phone, and not waste minutes. Try, if you haven’t already, asking for a pre-paid phone that you would pay for with your own money, like with me, it will show your parents how responsible you are with a phone. I reccomend using Virgin Mobile, they have phones starting at about $20.00, and pre-paid minutes starting at $20.00. Do a little research on pre-paid phones to find the provider that is right for you. Maybe after paying your way for a while, your parents will see that you are responsible, and let you have a phone on their plan.

Answer #10

Your parents know you better than anyone here, so respect their decision - they care, Love you, and are looking after your best interests - check with them and see what age would be acceptable…I wish you the best !!
