What do you think about parents limiting their kids music choices (ages 12-15)?

Like songs with cussing & all that craaap. I think parents should let their kids listen to any kind of music, yeah it says dirty stuff but it’s just a song, it don’t mean oh ima do that. Dx

i think it is utterly stupid. no matter what parents want, keeping them from listening to their own music is just plain bleh!

Answer #2

I think it’s dumb. I’ve always been allowed to listen to whatever I want.

I came from a home where certain music (rather, certain artists) were banned or forbidden because my family didn’t like the message they perceived from it. It didn’t really stop me because I always found ways to hear what I wanted, and the internet came about which made music of all kinds really accessible.

Music can influence people, but not unless those people have predisposition to doing it already. So in my honest opinion it seems kind of silly to blame music and therefore ban it from being heard on that basis alone. However, it’s ultimately the parents’ right to set rules and limitations for their children as long as those children are under their care. When kids turn of legal age to move out and live on their own, they have plenty of time to buy and listen to whatever they want.

The irony of it all though is that it’s probably some weird right of passage that the children of any given generation be denied the right to listen to “their” music; our parents probably went through it, we went through, and our kids will most likely experience it as well.

Answer #7

Music is one of the few healthy escapes that are available to kids. However, if you actually care about music, you won’t go around buying dozens of albums about prostitution and crack. Just a thought.
