What was your first pap smear like?

Boy, that was a long time ago for me. It was scary and embarrassing, but it was thankfully over quickly. It was uncomfortable but didn’t actually hurt. It definitely wasn’t a good experience, but it is important to get done.

It was painful at first, and kind of nerve racking, but after the first few times getting them done it’s not embarrassing or nerve racking anymore. If you’re getting one done soon don’t stress about it! Usually the gynos are very nice. (:

My first one wasnt that bad at all. Most gynos use plastic instruments now and they are more comfortable than the old metal ones. You undress from the waist down and put a sheet over you. The gyno comes in and you lay back on the table and put your feets in the stirrups. Then the gyno lubes up the speculum and inserts it into the v@gina. Its uncomfortable but usually isnt painful. They then use a cotton swab to swab the inside of your v@gina to test for stds and infections and abnormalaties. The whole thing last a total of like 2 minutes. Its over very fast. Once your older and youve had it done or had a baby and had this done every month while your pregnant its not even a big deal.

It’s a womans check up. Usually once you have sex, or get pregnant doctors have to check you. They basically just make sure you don’t have any stds, and make sure everything is growing right.

I first had one when I was….13. I have never been sexually active, but I was sexually abused. It was horrifying for me. I was already exposed enough having to talk about it, then I had the tests….

Well even though you hadn’t had sex, the sexual abuse could have harmed you, so being checked was the best thing you could have done. It might have been horrifying, and uncomfortable, but it was a wise choice to do.
