Why are my palms peeling?

For a few months now the skin on the palm of my hands have been peeling, they puff up then peel, not to mention it hurts like hell. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction to water (cause it would happen when ever water touched it) but now thats not the case, and its kind of worrying….Help?

Go to see a doctor. A specialist for skin disease if you can find one. This is not normal.

You might have neurodermatitis, atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. All of which are non-contagious illnesses of the skin. They all get worse when you itch and scratch. (And of course it’s difficult not to use your palms, which means they’ll not heal without professional help.)

You may have an infection there. In which case you may need antibiotics.

Or you might have touched something that was poisonous or caustic.

before you get all scared & begin to panic for nothing…have you thought about this?

  1. perhaps it may be cause to the change in weather from the very cold winter to the spring? A lot of people suffer due to climate changes…when seasons change from cold to hot or hot to cold the most vulnerable part of the body is our hands…
  2. How often do you moisturize your hands? Our hands are constantly doing something washing something working in a garden cooking cleaning & using all sorts of chemicals…every time you wash your hands your skin gets dehydrated…you must use moisturizing lotions on your hands to keep them from splitting or cracking which causes irritation & will cause it to itch til finally begins to burn.
  3. If you have exposed to certain plants, you may have caught an allergy sometimes there is poison ivy hidden in our backyards or even poison oak…and an allergic reaction may occur causing it to swell or itch & then burn as well… in that case you can start by using some aloe vera gel…or any sort of cream that has aloe vera in it…that will sooth the itch but not stop it entirely! In this case, you may need antib’s as mentioned or an ointment prescribed by a skin doctor.

Hope you feel better soon & hope this helped!

Also to tag onto the bit about allergies: I had a peeling hand problem not too long ago. Ended up being because I was allergic to products with a lot of perfumes, like scented hand soap and laundry detergent.

Answer #11

That can definitely be another reason for it happen as well…which is why it is crucial to find out what happened before the peeling of the hand after you treat it…first thing to do is make it stop then find what what caused it by tracing back a few events prior to the incident! That should give a few leads on to what might be the cause…

Answer #12

They could be dry, put some hand lotion and if it doesn’t work go to the doctor.
