Meaning of Organic In foods means: Naturally grown. No unnatural additives or fertilizers were used. In chemistry means: to do with carbon based molecules. In chemistry organic is concerned with the carbon compounds of living beings and also most other carbon compounds.
In food organic is referring to that which was produced without the use of hormones, antibiotics (for non-medicinal purposes), synthetic fertilizers or pesticides in accordance with the USDA National Organic Program (NOP).

There's a branch of chemistry known as "Organic Chemistry" [if you ever encountered that one] which distinguishes itself from other branches of chem because it deals with the element Carbon, which is present in just about any living thing [that's why when you burn something, charcoal remains - that's the carbon part]. Maybe that's where they came up with the term "organic"?
Organic can refer to a lot of things from medicines to the human body. It basically means completely natural, without anything added to it.
