I really respect people who do that. I think it's great that they haven't given up on improving their minds just because they might be married or already have a career. I know many adults at my college, and most of them are well-read, intelligent people who just hit a bump in the road when they were younger. Actually, I respect most people who go to community college. Community college is great, I don't care what people say. Not everyone has the time or money to go away to a university for the 4 full years. I'm a sophomore in college and my debt right now is $0 :)
Union College in New York actually has classes dedicated fully to older people that want to learn some more. When I visited, we stopped in on an Irish history class. It's definitely commendable, I have a huge respect for people that choose to learn more, even in their maturity. There are people that willingly reject new information.
I think it's great? We had someone in their 50s who already had a doctorate come back to get her masters in counseling... She's actually one of my favorite people in the program. She had the benefit of experience and actually had a lot to offer in terms of group discussions and supervision groups.
I have a lot of admiration for anyone who decides to do something they really want to without letting something as minor as age get in the way. There are people at my university in their eighties and I think its fantastic.
I think its fantastic! Just because you're older doesn't mean you not supopose to learn and grow anymore.
