I asked my friend this once because she was over weight. She said it is because jeans become restriting if they she gains wieght and become super loose if she looses it. She also said she wears them because it is cheaper to buy them and she doesn't want to waste money on jeans because she is loosing wieght. She went from a size 22 to a 16. She does own jeans but it being winter she will wear leggings and long shirts. She also wears a lot of tights and skirts.

Why do those that are not obese wear them? Because we want to. They are comfortable and inexpensive.

I think it has to do with comfort as well.
