Is it normal to call your teacher a friend?

It is normal to think of her/him as a friend.. some teachers are easy to get along with and you can open up to them. However, I don’t think its necessary to call her/him a “friend”. Maybe a close teacher or a nice one that is friendly would be better.

I made some very good friendships with 3 teachers (well, 2 teachers and my headmistress) when I was in high school. I still sometimes go back and visit them. I think, when you are on good terms with your teachers, you find class more enjoyable and have another reason to study and do homework.

Yea… It happens. In school my one teacher could be considered a friend. We didn’t hang out and go to the movies, but I could talk to her about almost anything. Teachers are usually very compasionate people and want to help their students. I also heard about a girl in her final year at school and a new teacher, fresh out of college became friends and when she left shcool they started a realtionship and got married eventually… I suppose this is ok, as long as the relationship doesn’t start while one is still in school.

In general, I’d say that it’s not extremely abnormal, but that it’s not very common either. In most cases students do not have an actual ‘friendship’ with teachers. They do not spend time together after class, they don’t go to the movies or have sleepovers. They’re also most likely not the person you call after a horrible breakup or after a fight with your best friend.

If a teacher is nice to you then it’s not uncommon to form some kind of bond there, but because it’s just a professional thing, I’m not really sure how much of a ‘friend’ a teacher really can be to a student..

I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s a huge difference between an actual friend and a good teacher-student friendly relationship. Is it normal to have some kind of friend-like relationship with a teacher? Sure. But I wouldn’t be quick to call them a friend unless they actually were..

I learned that the best type of learning happens when there is a friend like relationship with your teacher. so yeah. it’s normal.
