Is it normal for a 5 week old kitten to be eating dry adult cat food?

Answer #1

A 5 week old kitten should be eating dry kitten food - if you don’t provide it with kitten food, it will eat what is within reach. I’d advise you to get some kitten food.

Answer #2

what’s the difference between kitten food and regular cat food?

Answer #3

At five weeks old they really should be eating kitten food because it has more nutrients and is easier for them to eat and digest. If you have to feed them the adult dry atleast let it soak in some warm water and start to soften before you feed it to them so they have an easier time eating and digesting it.

Answer #4

Kitten food has TONS more nutrients for the cats, since they’re growing. There’s also more fat, which the kittens NEED. There essential vitamins and minerals in the kitten food. You need to go get some before they get malnourished.

Also, they should be drinking milk from their Mom up to week 6 to 8, THEN wet kitten food, then dry adult food at about 8 months to a year. You jumped ahead like 4 steps. Way too early.

Answer #5

Kittens can eat dry kitten food at 4 weeks….it’s specially made for kittens as young as 3 weeks. I go through a lot of litters and they’ve all been on dry food at that age, as well as mother’s milk up to 8 weeks.

Answer #6

Why not ask a vet and not a world war 2 vet.

Answer #7

all my kittens have tried dry adult cat food, itsl just because they see mum eating it and they want to try it, just put down dry kitten food instead, i had both litters of kittens on powderd kitten/puppy milk then softend the dry food, they wouldnt touch that so i bought wet food and gave them dry food aswell, i dont believe in giving an animal a purely dry diet. also make sure there is fresh water available
