What are Native American reservations like?

My Great Grandfather is Native American and he’s going really old. So my Parents want me to meet that side of the family before he dies. But I’m kinda Nervious because I’ve never met a Full blooded Native American or ever been on a reservation. I hope they like me.

i live on a reserve in Canada. my parent’s and grandparents are both Native American. honestly, i think every reserve is a bit different. some have schools, grocery stores, police stations, gas stations, hockey arenas, and motels. some are in really nice condition, while some are pretty run down. the reserve i live on is fairly small, and all kids at kindergarten age go to school in the town 10 minutes away. my boyfriend lives on a different reserve, and his reserve is huge, one of the bigger reserves in canada. it has a school, hockey arena, police station, and a grocery store. you hear bad stories about how all people on reserves dont do anything and are on welfare, and drop out of school and do dr-gs. not true. not everyone is like that, i have a year of school left, i have a job and my license and im graduating :) as long as you stay in with the right crowd, you’re good. sorry for such a long paragraph!

Not so different then any other place…..Except, you stand to learn a spirtual culture that could rock your world. Keep in mind the Native American was given rocks to survive on, and yet they did, aginst all odds. You have a heritage that is about abundant living/survival and spirtualism no person should ever miss out on…Go learn, and enjoy what is yours in what your ancestory has reserved for you to experience.

PS the abundance I’m referring to is not in wealth nor even food …it is about the abundance in adversity I’m referring to.

Answer #4

I think they’re all different. Theres on here that I’ve been too thats deep in the mountains. They have a gas station, a small grocery store, a motel, & very small old looking houses. The other one thats on the other side of town is even smaller & just has houses & horse ranches.

Answer #5

They’re actually different everywhere. For instance, the one across the bridge from me is pretty much divided in half. There are druggies, drop outs and those ones, then there’s the good ones.

Some of them even hate my tribe, which is why I can’t tell a soul or I will actually get put into a hospital.

Answer #6

They all differ according to size. I wouldn’t worry. Native americans are not generally predjudice people. I’m half Blackfoot Indian for example and don’t have a predjudice bone in my body when it comes to race.

Besides, you are a really beautiful young lady. Anyone who misjudges you without even knowing you is just stupid anyway
