Native American Communication

Home More advice General Knowledge

I was wondering, when European settlers first came to America, how did they communicate with the Native Americans if they spoke different languages. I always see Native Americans in historical films talk in English. There names were even in English like Sitting Bull or Crazy horse, and they talk about things like many moons ago etc. How did they have names that used English words? I'm really confused as to all this. How the communication of the Europeans and the Native Americans took place if both cultures spoke different languages, and why were many Native American cheifs named with English words such as White Bird etc. Where did these names with English words come from? Did they know English before European settlers came? What language did the Native Americans speak, and is that language still spoken in Siberia, where the Native Americans came from 35,000 years ago when they crossed the Bering Strait Land Bridge? Is the Native American language still spoken in Siberia? I'm really confused about this. Please give suggestions. Thank You.
