– You should allow her to stretch all the same. Either in-hand or just in the pasture. The pasture might be best that way she can decide how much exercise she wants to do and when to stop. It actually will help phizzoo_x because think about it - if your stuck in one place and have to sit still - do you get sore? I don’t know about you, but I do. If she’s stuck, then she’s just going to get more sore. Let her decide how much exercise and I highly suggest not riding her. She’ll go lame really, really quick.

Supplements may work, but they aren’t always going to. It depends on the horse, some react, others don’t.

Have you tried Bute? You have to get it from the Vet…it’s “horsie aspirin”, and used for many types of pain in horses. (Ask for the powdered form, and mix in her grain in a along with a little Karo syrup, since it’s bitter). Powdered is far cheaper than the tubes. If she has regular arthritus, it will help the inflammation (as well as getting her to move around a littleto lossen the joint)…Also, talk to your Vet about Vitamin E and Ester C…to keep the joint fluid from stiffening… (we use this combo of Vitamins on dogs with arthritus…but check to make sure it’s ok for horses, too)…

There is also a type of arthritus called ringbone…which there is really nothing you can do to help, except special shoeing…and Bute…but it’s still very painful. The only way to know if it’s ringbone is xrays.

Ask about the bute and the supplements first…if it’s ok then give it a try.

Good luck, honey.

Get the supplements other people mentioned. If you’re gong to work her. I’d suggest rubbing her down and streching her out. Then wrapping her legs (with polo wraps or something). I’d say walk her A LOT. Make sure she is extremely warmed up and loose and all at the walk. Then trot a little. Posting. Let her strech a ton more. I’d do this a few times and then see how she’s doing. Only then would I canter. No galloping.. Hope this helped..

I did some research…Horses can have Glucosamine and Condroiton…as well as MSM. They sell it in feed stores (horse dosage…it’d cost you an arm and a leg if you were trying to give a horse the right dosage via human sized pills)…it is a powder…you mix into their grain once a day. MSM has properties that divert the pain messages to the brain…The combination of the Glucosamine and Condroiton promote cartlage growth…that combined with with the Vit E and Ester C…might help her recover her joint.

I would NOT trot her…all that hard pounding will be painful…but walking her is very good…

I agree .. walk / trot her around for a bit. Don’t get on her, just exercise her in hand. And if at all possible, if you have a stall to keep her in, put her in at night and get her out and walk her around frequently and it’ll help loads if you have an indoor arena. (:

Answer #6

emm arthritus dosen’t get better by making them run around! that makes them get more an more sore! get the vet along and make them giv you something for it! because if it gets really bad sometimes its best to put them down to save their pain :( :(

Answer #7

you should work her for a little…and her her joints to move. pick up her legs and strech her
