My parents... help?

Well I was hoping I could get some advice from actual parents. Well, you see, I’m allowed to go to the mall with my friends and see movies, ect, I just turned 13. Lately, my parents are trying to be my best friend, and treating me like I’m six all over again.

They try to spend so much time with me, and at a lot of times treat me like a toddler. How can I tell them that even though I’ll need them at times, I need my own space???

As a parent, we want to protect our children from all the evil in the world. I think if you can make plans and give them very specific details, I.E. drop off time, pick up time, what our going go see, who with, let them have phone numbers and even speak to your friends parents. Anything you can do to put tham at ease, will definetly help your case. Eventually as they get comfortable with you going out, they will trust you to make the right choices. But warning if you lie, or deceive them in anyway it does take a long time to get someone’s trust back. Blessings.

I had the opposite problem growing up - my parents pretty much ignored me and let me run wild. I wish I had of had yours!

Just let them know that they can trust you to be sensible and make mature decisions on your own, and that you need to be independent to prepare yourself for later on in life when they won’t always be there.

“Mom, Dad, I realize I’m a teenager and not ready for some things but at the same time I’m not an irresponsible toddler either - I know you love me and want to guide my every step but please don’t smother me…I need a little space to make my own way, ok ?”

You tell them mom and dad I love you but right now I dont need anymore friends. I need my parents.
