Why won't my Chihuahua play?

I got my recent Chihuahua as a companion for my other chi so he would have someone to play with but she will not play at all. She doesnt play tug o war, chase or anything that puppies do…any advice?

I have a 10 month old chi . I couldnt really get him to play til about 6 months or so . I suppose it may have be a phase or somthing . Maybe shes just a timid puppie.

I just read a magazine and they say that chi’s hate moving around that it stresses them out, give your baby a little time and she should adjust just fine, if not it could be HYPOGLYCEMIC… that comes from low blood sugar…if thats the case the puppy will be lethargic, weak, and wobbly, try some corn sryup to see if she perks up, you might also want to take her to the vet and get her checked out just in case

Maybe it doesnt want to play and rather eat. To get its attention to play, get some kind of pillow or doll and hit her face with it a few times and she will get your attention and run with the pillow/doll and she will chase it.I do that and I get a RC car and control it and my dog starts to chase it.After you play with it, give it a treat.=] !!!

maybe the pup is still to young to learn how to play with another dog or with u. maybe because he was taking away from his mom and litter mates to early to even learn anything from them or maybe your pup is just getting adjusted to the whole homing situation and is confused that one minute hes with hes mommy and the next the pup is somewhere else and different and alone with nothing that he recognizes!!

hoped I helped lil!! :)

I had two Chihuahuas for several years. How long have you had the new pup? They are easily startled because they’re so tiny. She probably just needs some time to get used to the new environment and her new companion.

Is there a big age difference between the two dogs? Your original dog might be scaring her even if he’s only playing. I had a Chihuahua for two years before getting her a sister. She was very scared of the original dog so she hid in tiny little corners. It took her a few weeks to warm up to the older dog and start to have her own little personality. Just give her some time.

Hope this helped. Have fun with your doggies!

Answer #7

You didn’t say how long you’ve had her…it can take a couple of weeks for a pup to “adjust” to a new enviroment…Also, as trishuh said, she may just be timid…

Does she play with your other dog…but just not with you?? She may need to “learn” to play with people…I’ve seen dogs come out of the shelter, who don’t even know what a ball is, or recognise a toy…noone has ever shown them.

little tip: SOME Chihuahuas are just like that my aunt has three and two of them are timid shakey and they pee themselves when shes not around to hold them. I think you’d get more luck from a cat.
