My Bernie girl died last night, my other dog is sad too, ideas?

My lab mix died last night and I’m worried about my other dog Misty. It’s only the start of the first day without her best friend. She is already showing signs of missing her. How can I help her get through this? I’m having a very hard time myself but I have to try and comfort her. I don’t think I will be getting anymore dogs in the future. It’s to hard when they get sick. Today is really a sad day for all of us. Bernie was always so full of life and loved people. If God has a place for animals I know she is there. We love and miss her terribly !!!

well it’s been three day’s since Bernie died and it’s been so hard. Misty is doing pretty good. She misses Bernie terribly, but we bought her new toys and giving lots of attention. Thank goodness my husband is retired so she is never alone. It’s funny that you mentioned taking her to see her family. My husband took her to see her mama today and took her for a ride in the truck to keep her busy and he also took her for an early morning walk. Thank all of you for your great advise. It’s going to take time. I’m just happy for all the great times we had with Bernie.

I think it would help to keep her in company of other dogs, even if you dont get another one. when my cat died and left my poor lab alone 7 years agowe have since gotten another cat and 2 other sogs), but for awhile she was alone as well. we took her to meet her family, her mother and 2 of her brothers, and tried to keep her inthe company of other animlas. it helped tremendously. maybe you could take your dog t oa dog park or to a friend’s with dogs. socialization may help her get over her loss.

Animals DO grieve/miss their partners…but will get over the loss long before you do…Take her for walks, and let her bond to you as a single dog…one who doesn’t have to share attention…She’ll probably bond tighter to you, now that she’s alone.

well hun, I know you love Misty, but im not sure theres not much more you can do for her other than comfort her and just give her attention and love. I know its hard, I’ve been through a very well loved pet’s death. it was hard at first, of course. im not going to sugar-coat it, its going to be hard for the first few months, and depending on how you cope could even take year or even more. im so sorry to hear about your loss and if you ever want to talk im here :)

Well…animals grieve as humans do…your other puppy, Misty will need time to adjust…sometimes it best to wait a while…a month or so…and think about getting another dog. Misty could want the companionship just as much as you would…

consider it…I know its hard when they pass away or become sick, but that’s part of having our furry babies…just let Misty adjust and make sure you show her lots of love and affection as she moves on…
