my mother slapped me

my mother slapped me for no reason at all she told me to be quiet and i told her not to tell me to be quiet and she slapped me in the cheek that was not right

Answer #1

Yeah that was kinda uncalled for. What were you guys talking about? If you don’t mind me askin

Answer #2

While I think slapping is excessive, your mother is the authority figure there. If she tells you to be quiet, well, she can and you shouldn’t tell her that she should not. Based on your undetailed description it doesn’t seem like that situation calls for slapping or anything.

Answer #3

While I personally believe slapping does absolutely nothing for the situation, try something different next time. When she tells you to be quiet, respectfully tell her “mom, that kind of hurts my feelings when you tell me to be quiet like that.” It gets your point across without coming across as a brat or anything like that. Also, in regards to what happened, I would approach her and again, respectfully tell her that you didn’t like her slapping you and you feel like you two need to talk. You can tell her that you really don’t like getting slapped, and that you wish for more respect than that. Then you need to also tell her that you will, in turn, give her more respect than just yelling back like a kid. Slapping is not OK but it sounds like you both really need to learn to communicate better. It can be a vicious cycle. It is my personal opinion from my own upbringing that people learn to give disrespect from their parents, who in turn be disrespectful in response to being disrespected. You can help her to end the cycle by talking to her CALMLY and RESPECTFULLY like an adult.
