I've recently started cycling to get fit,
The problem however is that I have a seasonal asthma and it is winter here now. And recently I started with this really annoying cough that just doesn't seem to be going away.
I suspect it's because inhaling the cold air when I cycle because I usually cough when I finished cycling, but it's been getting worse now. oh and I am taking my asthma meds as I should be...but it only temporarily takes away the symptoms.
So does anyone maybe have any idea how to get fit, without getting a lung/throat infection?...this is really annoying.
I used to have chronic bronchitis. I was also a cyclist. My lungs used to burn most of the time I rode. The medications they had back then were lousy and the side effects were worst than my bronchitis so I didn't take them.
If it is really cold you may try wearing a scarf or surgical mask over your mouth to help warm the air you inhale a bit.
Personally I love cycling so I put up with the discomfort. If you enjoy indoor activities you might switch to them until the weather warms up. You also might see your doctor to see if you suffer from exercise induced bronchitis or if other meds might be better for you.
Maybe you should do some cardio indoors for awhile - use a stationary bike or treadmill.
Once you've reached the level of fitness that allows you to breathe easier during exercise, you can take it outdoors.
When it's winter here, you have no choice but to do your cardio indoors...the snow is too deep to run in, lol
See the thing is, I live in Africa...it doesn't really get cold here...it's just colder then usual. I can still go cycling without a jacket or something...but it's annoying.
I think you should research dietary methods and/or supplements for increasing your immunity.
It might have developed into pneumonia. You should probably get checked by your doctor.
