You might not get jail time, depending on what you stole, if you had not offended before, you might get a fine or community service or maybe a warning. If you are a repeat offender then you would not get a very long time in jail depending on what other crimes you have committed. Even if your time in jail was very short (the website i looked on didn’t specify) it can still affect jobs in the future.. I hope this question is just hypothetical however :)
