Is it best to leave the jewelry in, or take it out of an infected ear stretching?

I stretched my ear to 10mm ages ago, and I did regret it but wasn’t too fussed as my hair covers my ears anyway. Recently though I changed the jewelry in it and it has become very infected. I’d like to leave the jewelry out and let it close up but I have been googling about it and people are saying NOT to take the jewelry out as it will heal around the infection and cause it to spread? Or something?

I am now very confused and a little scared. I heal very quickly, and keep in mind that I do want it to heal over, I don’t actually want to keep the hole, but if it is safer to keep jewelry in it, I will.

I basically just want to know what’s best to get rid of the infection, I don’t care if I keep the hole of not.

I’d take it out. If it’s swollen, taking it out will help bring the swelling down. If there’s pus in there taking the jewelry out will let the stuff ooze out. There’s a chance that you are allergic to the jewelry, taking it out would be the best thing to do in that case. So, my advice is to take it out, and clean it with salt water and a gentle soap until it heals. I have never heard of leaving the jewelry in for any type of infection like that…

I think the best thing to do is to take it out, the jewerly itself could be causing it.

Sorry, not “until it heals”, I meant to say “until the infection clears”.

Depending on what jewellery it is. If your ear is stretched, then what is it? plug, taper? tunnel? I’m guessing you’ve gone bigger, and its reacted. I stretched my ear from a regular piercing, to a 5 mil using a taper. Over the days it swelled up and looked infected, but infact was just blood and puss, once oozed out, was painless, and using warm salted water and aloe vera cleaned it and helped it heal. I’m now at 10 mil. :)
