why can't i learn how to say NO when poeople ask me for things (my phone, mmoney, homework, etc.)?

Answer #1

Are people simply using you for these things? In which case, you should start slowly, so if they are Bullys, they won’t have reason to pick on you, for example, if they ask for your homework, why not offer to simply help them, and then start saying no. The last thing you want is to get picked on.

Answer #2

no they aren’t bullys but they act like they are my friend then when i try to say no i guess they call me out my name like fu and other things that are rude or then they might you ant my friend no more and honestly im done with their bs and ive been putting up with it all year.

Answer #3

Hmm…well, can I be your friend?

If yes, can you spend the next…well, let’s start with month :) helping to market and promote our site?

Drop me a note if you’re interested (and no, I’m not actually kidding) lol.

But, well, if you did need help…just let them know, you can’t help…sometimes, being a friend is knowing when to say “no”.

Answer #4

Just hold your head up high and ignore them :’)

Answer #5

So… she says she has trouble saying “no” to people, so you ask her to do something for you to promote the site? I think maybe she’s asking this question because too many people are ALREADY taking advantage of her… don’t you?

Answer #6

It sounds like they ARE bullies, DerLaina… Bullies don’t have to be in your face, pushing you around. If they’re ridiculing you to try and get you to do something, that’s bullying. Definitely ignore, COMPLETELY ignore them. Do exactly what Gemma says to do. Head up and keep moving like they don’t exist!

Answer #7

These people are just using you because you are a nice person. You have to start saying no and take the crap they dish out to you. When they get mean tell them that is why you said no. After they hear no a few times they will stop asking. You don’t need them as friends.

Answer #8

Lol…see, if you study some psychology…you will learn that saying “no” to easy things is the first step - then, you can move on to saying “no” to bigger things. An outrageous request from me should provoke a knee jerk “heck-no” response…which then can help mentally prepare her to deal with her friends, whom she has emotional connection with…perhaps, next time, you should consider something in the greater context…not all of us on the site are in our teens :) I’m actually the youngest of the owners, and I’m 32.

Answer #9

I see your approach and understand the psychology… but, maybe since a 25-year old that’s been through college and a few psychology courses didn’t see what you’re doing, you should consider that a 15 year old isn’t going to benefit from one example. Maybe just an explanation would have yielded better results, or were you thinking so far ahead that you expected someone to go, “OMG, what are you THINKING?” so that you could then follow up with a condescending assumption that whomever said it hasn’t been through the courses and is unlearned? Age doesn’t equal wisdom.

Which was it? A setup so you could make yourself look superior, or a social experiment? Are you sitting there with a notebook marking each projected response? If so, in the future, I’ll try to keep it to a simple Yes/No/I Don’t Know so you won’t have to expand your experiments to such a dynamic scale. Get where I’m going here?

Answer #10

Lol…clearly, I should be writing that kind of thing when I’ve had more coffee and it’s AM, rather than PM :) Touche.

Answer #11

No i an ignorent word to me, so i use other ways to say no in more sarcastic way.

Answer #12

wow someone has had a few too many bad breakups. This man was clearly trying to make a statement given a brief example on what he knows first hand. I think he got too caught up in advertising tho. and the female who wrote that snarky remark only wasted space and failed to answer the question.
