Latin America is more of a concept then a geographical entity- when people who live in Latin American countries (like I do in Honduras) say "Soy Latino-Americano" they mean that they are descendants from Spanish & native forefathers.
If you want to get a real sense of the Latino-Americano lifestyle read 'Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent' (in Spanish Las venas abiertas de América Latina) a book written by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano in 1971.
It will open your eyes (and hopefully your heart) to the sadness of some of the f**cking screwing that has been practiced on this segment of the world by 1st world countries.
when most people speek of latin america they can be refuring to any place south of the united states. except for michel who enjoys calling every one wrong. However, this defination is found in "Webster's New World Dictionary" Latin refures to the language of Latium where Rome is found. Languages that are based on or heavly inflluanced by latin are called latin languages, like French, Italan and Spanish. Hispaniais the latin name for the Iberian Peninsula, where Spain and Portugal are. The people from Latin America are called Hispanic because ther ansestery is from one of those countries, and they speak one of those languages.
Latin America refers to territories in the Americas where the Spanish or Portuguese languages prevail: Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico — in summary, Hispanic America and Brazil. Latin America is, therefore, defined as all those parts of the Americas that were once part of the Spanish and Portuguese Empires.
What do you mean Latin America? Central America? Central America is in North America. Most South and Central American countries have descendants from Native forefathers as Michel stated. If i'm not wrong, everyone who claims they are Latino have ancestors indigenous to western hemisphere Hispanic countries.
Isnt Mexico apart of "Latin America"? YES it is, and i'm just saying their are some countrys in North/Central America such as Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Belize, Guatemala, HONDURAS, Panama and others.
Sorry, Central America is between North & South America and is a separate geographical region- just look at a map...
On your latter point you are correct,
Con Amistad, Michel.
It depends on what country your talking about like mexico would be part of north america and brazil would be part of south america
Also most populations of South American countries consider themselves Latino...
