Am I allergic to all dogs or just this one?
I am petsitting for a lapso apso. I think I am allergic to her. My girls want a shih tzu for christmas. Am I going to be allergic to her even if I plan on keeping her very short haired
I have a shih tzu and my dad has allergies and s0 d0 I the 0ther animals b0ther him greatly, but he can cuddle and h0ld and pat the shih tzu and d0esnt seem t0 b0ther him very much 0r at all… 0urs is a l0nger haired 2…s0me d0gs you cant be allergic 2 becuase 0f the salivia n0t the hair but a shih tzu is the hair… its n0t fur a shih tzus hair is like human hair…if your allergic 2 the salivia I rec0mmend a puggle!! :D
Phrannie has it right. There are a lot of hypoallergenic dogs. Look it up. A lot of people don’t get a dog because they think they are allergic to them. And the thing is you can have a dog but you have to do some homework. Good luck
It’s not really the hair, it’s the dander and saliva… some dogs are better for allergy sufferers and the shih tzu is on that list (http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm). To be safe you should probably ask if you can carry the dog and see how you react before you bring the dog home…
Before you ever buy a pup, go and sit with them…see if you have a reaction…every breed has some dander, but it varies…within the breed, and within the different breeds. There are many dogs within the size range of a Shih Tzu, who are hypo-allergenic…You may must have to visit several litters to find what you can live with.
If you aren’t having a HUGE reaction, there are meds you can take, also…
