In traditional lodges women are not allowed to become freemasons though there have been historical exceptions. However, there are irregular lodges that admit only women or both men and women. There are also freemason affiliated organizations for women; Job's Daughters and Rainbow Girls for girls and Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth and Daughters of the Nile for women. These organizations are based on freemason principals though their members are not technically freemasons.
